    Default Vitamix Problems

I was making a smoothie in my vitamix and it was pretty full. In the middle of the blending it stopped. It kinda has a slight plasticy smell. I cannot find my owners manual, so I was wondering if anyone knew if it shuts off on its own when it is close to possibly burning out, or is it dead?

I cannot imagine that it would be dead, I never over do it, plus it is the vitamix.

    This has never happened.

    Can anyone help?

    Ok, never mind.

I tried it again and it started back up.

Just so you know it does have an auto shutoff if it gets too hot. They want you to wait like a half hour or so before you start it up again to let it cool off. It's a nice feature to keep from blowing out your motor :)

Yes, this happened to me once too. The motor won't go on again until it cools down, about a half hour.

When it happened to me I was panicked too, but then I looked in the manual and that explained it.

My vitamix container has sprung a leak this week! After using it sparingly for 9 years, and like a maniac for the past 9 months, it has developed fine cracks around the base where the blades are. It leaks a stinky oily liquid when I take it off the base. Yuck.

I think it was the day I just lobbed a halved apple in there. It didn't crush up quickly, and probably either loosened the blades or cracked the container. Lesson learned.

I'll start using the dry container, hope that works for now. I hate to buy another container ($80) but if I must...

here is something i learned about high speed blenders like vitamix and blend tec:
when you are using them it is best to hold onto the top, just with very light pressure, no need to exert yourself. apparently, this helps to counteract the tendency for the centrifugal force to make the container want to "take off", so to speak, which can lead to cracking and/or leaking. i'm not sure if i presented the science of this properly, but this is an easy way to prolong the life of the container.

    Default Vitamix

Hi Shelah, that's a great idea about holding the top down!

My Vitamix is now 10 years old (in May anyway) and only in the last year has it started leaking. I just need a new washer and will order one soon. This is the best health/food investment I have EVER made!!

    Cheers,
    Sheryl
