fashion models????????
hi im Julia, and im a model, my agencie in new york doesnt want to work with me until I get a "model body". ok you know people, thoose tiny, tiny, tiny, lil girls with their hip bones and tiny little waists!! Yeah thats what I have to work with, thats what I have to stand next to and look better than!!
I weigh about 139lbs, and im 5'11
my measurments are
bust:34
waist:26
hips:40
I wear a size 6 dress size
An average fashion model is 5'9-6", and weighs anywhere from 120lbs-100lbs!!
Thats 15% underweight, theyre measurments in inches are:
bust:34
waist:24
hips:34
AS you can see I am a lil off on the weight and inches on my hips and waist.
Im trying to do raw right now, I blelieve in it and enjoy it, so far ive lost 10lbs, and another 9lbs. and ill be underweight, just like the rest of the models
I have questions, anyone who knows anything about this subject, please help me out.
I need to be THAT thin and lean, its almost like a ballerina's requirment size, but much more of an emphasis on the way you look, so I cant starve myself, cuz i wont look good, plus i wouldnt. I am hoping the raw food and excersise will get me very small and lean, I was wondering if it is unhealthy to be so small, especially for me being so young.
And I need to know how to become this small, yes raw food and excersise, but because requirements are so high for me, will I have to eat less and excersise more than most raw foodists???
Its very frustrating for me, I live in LAs VEgas at the moment, I was also looking for a nutritionist for his/her opinion also, if anyone has any suggestions about that also
Thank you so much
Julia

The US models are required to be thinner than the models in this country. I'm scandinavian. It is possible that you will be able to find a good agency, that does not ask you to be that thin.
My mom is educated fashion designer and have flirted with the business as well as knows the business pretty well. Standing on the sidelines, I learnt a little. For one thing I quickly realized I was too ugly and to fat, not to mention a bit too small. lol.
Modeling is an extremely tough business, so I don't envy you. I think it is great that you are asking yourself "is this healthy" and you are using raw food to BE healthy. In a young age, with bosses that seem to control your destiny, yelling at you to be wafer thin, it's cool, that you are thinking for yourself.
Some models are unhealthy. No doubt about it. If you reach a point where you know you are so thin, that your muscle is being eaten up from lack of nutrition and your bones are being robbed of calcium, also from food imbalance, then of course you are on dangerous ground. There are people who do fasts and are told, that it is okay to loose muscle, to loose the toxins later on, and that is of course a big lie. So, good for you, that you are asking questions.
I wish I was qualified to give you a proper nutrition chart, and specific help, but I am not. I believe you will become even more beautiful and radiant as a model on raw.
I also know, that if the agency is using you and abusing you, by demanding you destroy your body so they can get a good photo and make money on you, then you need a better agency. Does Elite still exist? Who did you go to?
I am trying to loose weight at present, but I haven't met anyone yet, who knows the ideal way to loose it all, in an easy way.
After you're done modeling, I hope you have other dreams as well?
Welcome to the group, Julia. :)

After thinking about this and measuring I had to add to my comments.
I am used to counting in meters and kilograms. I got the calculater out. You are only 1.80 meters. I didn't know you were that small. 5'11 has been a good model height for 20 years, and is not nearly too tall. It's a great medium height. You need a better agency. I am surprised that they think you are tall. (I am 5'7 or 1.70 meters and I was too small in the old days. Not that it matters lol. But for comparison. And I was young in the 80's.)
I checked your hips. You are 101.6 cm in the butt (hips) measure. That's not a lot, but it is definatly too much. The model business is pretty simple in some ways. You need to fit a size small or medium at the most, and be taller than avarage. That's what works on photos. It works on photos, because clothes like clothe-hangers and not voluptuous bodies, to be frank. lol. Models are clothe hangers and big bust or big butt is great for male fantasies, but not for photos and clothes. It's business, not health and not personal. As I'm sure you know.
Young girls sometimes grow very tall and their female fat deposits don't catch up with them until a few years down the line. That's where those measurements on the hip come from. It's child shape on a female body. Please don't be a slave to that.
I checked the scandinavian clothes measurements, and for a size small, you would have to have the following measures:
hips 95 cm = 37.4 inch
waist 69 cm = 27.1 inch
chest 88 cm = 34.6 inch
a size medium in scandinavia is:
hips 98 cm = 38.6 inch
waist 72 cm = 28.3 inch
chest 92 cm = 36.2 inch
I would say that about 50 kilo's (110 lbs) is normal for fashion models. It has been for ages. But it is individual and it is normal that girls LIE outright in the figures that are sometimes posted in magazines.
A bikini model is usually a lot "fatter" or more female curvacious than a photo model or a runway model. They, on the other hand, often have fake boobs. Most people know this, I guess.
Please remember, that with a more fully grown female body (especially after the age of 22-23 where a woman is finally fully matures with hips and butt), looks different. As a model, you will not be able to fit the measures of the really young girls for long. And you shouldn't. Take a look at the very long lasting model Cindy Crawford, who's old now (my generation) and who has never been tiny. Crawford should never look like Kate Moss. That is two different body types.
So, you go find a good agency, get the weight to a healthy super lean weight on raw, and I'm sure you'll do fine. Good luck! And don't trust the photographers, lol. Some of them are lying sons of bitc*es.

Julia.
I do not think that you will have to eat any different to the rest of us raw foodies in order to get that thin. I am that thin and I did not want it. It just happens, when you are 100% raw. Another benefit will be your skin. You will outshine the rest of them in this area. Eat all raw but eat plenty raw and stay healthy. Going raw is enough. Do not try to cut down or watch calories as well.
There is sufficient in the world for man's need, but not for his greed.

Just a thought....
Hi, Just a thought... Carol Alt is a Raw foodist..not Vegan & she does have a Web site & book. I read her book & it has some practical advise...(Not nearly as good as Alissa's though) Maybe you could e-mail her & see if she would give you some advice since she is in the industry.
I remember her saying that she had trouble w/her health & weight until she went RAW. I hope you will stick w/our group, as I think we have the most to offer...IMHO.. :) & I also like the positive messages & debate/ideas we share.
I think her site is carolalt.com...but I'm not sure.
good luck to you

hi there~ I used to model professionally in my twenties (now 41). I remember feeling stressed ALL THE TIME trying to be thin enough, and back then I was 5'5" and a size 2-4. Imagine feeling overweight! But I did, all the time. The only time I felt REALLY great was when I was all raw, for a few months, when I was 25. Not only did I get "really skinny" (good for modeling, not so normal in the "real world") but I looked HEALTHY, not starved, Because I WAS healthy. I couldn't handle the business eventually, couldn't take being treated like an object, so I got out of it. But if you want to lose weight, but in a HEALTHY way, and look amazing (you'll look more radiant and be so calm and relaxed on all those go sees) I recommend going all raw, but do it right-get coaching or attend classes. It can make the business more enjoyable, I think, because you'll feel better emotionally and physically while you are looking better, without being obsessive about it. Just my two cents.

Hi Julia,
I first want to support you in what you want to do with your career and your body. And I think that a raw foods diet is great.
That being said, I think you're right to be scared about being 120lbs and 5'11". Again, you have the right to do whatever you wish with your body, but our society overvalues underweight women, and I cannot imagine that attaining your "weight goal" will be physically healthy for you, no matter what your diet is. I know that people have different kinds of bodies and different metabolisms and some are naturally very thin and that's healthy for them; however, it sounds as though you are already quite thin, and if you're apprehensive about losing more weight, then it may be healthiest for you to listen to your body and let it pick its own natural weight.
There are lots of things to do in life besides being a fashion model, or as yumyum suggests, you may be able to find another agency that will not demand that you be so skinny.
However, I am not a nutritionist, but I highly recommend that you find one that is open to the raw vegan diet, and consult with them about your weight goals. And I do wish you health and happiness no matter what you decide.

why don't you take it a day at a time or 10 pounds at a time rather? If you are weigh 140lbs now, go back to the agency when you are 130 and see what they say. The way you look might have changed enough for them to employ you.
and yes, don't put all your eggs in one basket, look at other agencies too, what about living abroad?

Consider Tyra Banks. She has a lovely figure and is not super-thin. Unless your heart is really set on this particular agency, I would search for better representation. Clearly you are struggling with the idea of being too thin to be healthy. I think it may be time to re-evaluate your priorities/dreams/goals. If they are to be with this agency, then work hard, lose the weight, and don't look back. Just try to stay focused on mental and physical health as much as you can. You are a whole and beautiful person, not the sum of your parts.
Best wishes,
Anna

I did some runway modeling in NYC for a very brief time...but I was too thin ! I was 5'6" and 101-104. Ugh when I look back at pictures...a true stick ! Also I was not healthy. Not only did it mess my metabolism up (I was eating 600-800) a day to stay at that weight, it also caused problems such as cavities. I never had them till I started the severe dieting. Now at 44 I have more crowns than I feel I should. I attribute it poor nutrition.
If you are going to do it be wise !! I was not.
