lower metabolism?
Does fasting lower your metabolism making your weight loss slower? I've been wanting to fast because of the physical and spirtural benifits but I thought it would slow down my weight loss? Also how do you come off the fast?

I was wondering about this to... when fasting you will lose a pound a day.
well what if you nibbled on fruit all day but only consumed 2-4 pieces of fruit total that day and did this for the length of any given fast. would you end up losing more or the same as if you were fasting? it would be like juice fasting but with solid fruit.

Hey gals,
What I have read on fasting sites. During a fast, the body's metabolism slows down to preserve energy. We are abstaining from food so the body's defense is to slow down and concentrates on healing. Initially the weightloss varies from 2-4 lbs but then slows down to about a 1 lb a day (average).
The importance of the fast is to detoxify and repair......the body is being cleansed and repaired to work more effectively and efficiently. Some people gain their weight back and others do not.........it depends on each person in terms of their eating habit and activity level. More importantly, our machine is properly working.
Personally, I don't think eating a few pieces of fruit would be considered a fast b/c the idea is to abstain from food otherwise the body is going to assume it is starving (b/c the digestive system is being toyed with).
One member was up to two weeks and hadn't lost a pound. Depends on each person.
If you decide to, would love to have you join our fasting threads. I've been water fasting and there is another thread on juicing.

well if you were to nibble on fruit throughout the day (to keep the metabolism going) and only have a total of 2-4 or 5 pieces a day for some length of time...lets say 7 days, what would your weightloss guess be? and was it 3500 calories that equals one pound?

Your cute ! You and I think the same......your analytical aren't you? ;)
This my best "educated" guess and will leave room for others as well.
Calorie deficit by means of "solid" is sending a message to the digestive system that there is "work" to be done. It sends all of it's energies into digesting and then it realizes OMG, we only have so much fuel us! At night is when all the processing and assimilating takes place. Eventually, the metabolism gets compromised.
There is a difference between shutting down the digestive system and not. It requires alot of energy to breakdwon food, move it,disperse the nutrients etc. So by eating, it would defeat the purpose. I won't even begin to try and explain since i am not qualified.
Theoretically, you could prob lose weight doing it that way, but if you are attempting to cleanse, detox and repair on deeper levels, "eating" would not qualify. Grant it, there are some fast that include just brown rice alone but what I have read and adopt, abstains from food period.
I will try to find a site that explains much better.........I'm sensing the weightloss is the interest here?
We fast --to improve our functions therefore a leaner/healthier body can be achieved and maintained.

I have to agree with Miss Linda. Fasting is not just about weight loss, and if it was, I think we'd all be miserable and then eat and eat and eat when the fast was done. A true fast is a totally different experience and done for possibly several reasons.
I also don't suggest analyzing raw food with weight loss. So many people say this, and it's important to say again, raw food is not a diet...it's a lifestyle. If you choose to eat raw, I think you must be doing it for the right reasons in order to succeed.
Thanks for letting me share.

Debbie!!!!!!!! I wish you were here more often. I miss your gorgeous face.........it's like old times :)
That's how I approached raw over a year ago --attempted to do the MC for weightloss etc. little did I know what was in store.......
I didn't realize how SENSITIVE the digestive system really is when you fast....AND AFTER is soooooooooo important.

thanks for your input...just thinking this because losing weight is based on a daily caloric intake so i figured by eating throughout the day keeps metabolism going and only a little fruit would be few calories so there would be much weight loss.
im not analyzing raw food with weight loss. and if someone were to choose raw food to lose weight than that is their purpose. anyways i was just curious about this as a concept not an action. I eat raw for every benefit it has to offer for optimum health.

Thanks everyone for your input. I see I must research this issue on my own, so that I will know what I am doing and for the right reasons. Again thanks.
