    Wink to help others

I want to believe that there are others that may have some concern when doing a juice fast as I do.....please do not let my situation scare you.

Today I saw my naturopath and I was not impressed by his approach. He does not think that I have liver/gallbladder or kidney issues even after explaining my previous medical history. he would rather have me use metimucill to push all the toxins instead of enema or salt flush. Metemucil has chemicals!!!!! Then he said colonics would be better--well he employs when in his clinic and that is way to harsh for me.

I will be seeeing a cardiologist to wear a holtor monitor for a few days to see if my heart rhythm is okay. meanwhile, a verg good friend of mine is a chiropractor and his close friend is a retired naturopath living in Idaho so he has contacted him so I can get intouch with him to "consult" about my health remedies.

I've been mostly juicing and nibbling here and there. I had a great BM to day and feel that more is to come. I want to do a liver/gallbladder flush but I'm concerned about toxemia so I will do some more research. Anyone have expereince with Dr Hulda's flush?

    Hoping for the Best,
    linda

Here's great news for you, Metamucil is psyllium seed. So all you have to do it stir some psyllium or ground flax in your juice and drink it down. You don't need to buy the processed stuff, just the whole seed at your hfs. Read the label on a Metamucil bottle next time you are in the grocery store. The additives are just flavoring which is what your juice will act as when you mix the natural stuff in there.

So far fennel jice has been great an giving me a natural BM. I'll probably stick with this for awhile until my stomach (intestines) get stronger.

    thanks for the info.

    better days ahead,

    JEllybean!!!

Alot can surfce it's different for everyone---I have read to wait until your body is strong health wise and then do a cleanse which is the theory I'm going with however, alot fo people here have done juice fast right away.

Fennel taste like licorice.....I usually juice it with celery if I am juicing. Right now no juice for me just raw food. funny, I'm eating fennel seeds right now!

    Jellybean <~~~~that's not raw !!!! <<<teasin>

Miss Linda- I don't know where I was when this occured.... I am so sorry! I was searching for the cheesecake recipe and \POP/ here you are in the ER and it's DEC!!! Yikes... I am so sorry that I didn't send you my wishes... I'm glad that you are seeing progress now (FEB 2005)

I am reading 12 Steps to Raw, and the author was saying that during a 14 day water fast, she had a dream about when she was a small child, she put her hands in some sort of fertilizer and then in her mouth... when she woke she remembered the dream and she had that taste of the poison in her mouth!!! From what everyone is saying, it is like your body literally goes into reverse and cleans itself along the way- just amazing!

    Take care- keep smilin'

    Hello MissLinda,

I'm just reading your thread and wondering how it all turned out when you went to the cardiologist? Was it just a temporary thing or was there something more serious. I respect the opinions of those wary of doctors (me too) but do feel torn when you have symptoms that suggest you may not last long enough to let the raw diet do its magic.

RawTruth had some helpful comments for me on another thread re: this topic, but I was interested to learn how it went for you, it that's not prying to much. I've had some oddball chest discomfort since late November (pre-raw) and am seeing a cardiologist Tuesday to see if there might just be some tests worth doing. Of course your experience reinforces that even the tests may not be conclusive.

Most important is that everyting turned out well for you. Best wishes for good health!

Hi! Wow, I 'm suprised this thread came up .....brings back memories of how far I have come. :)

Rawmeny, as of to date, I am doing AWESOME and thank you for asking.

At that time, I was seeing a naturopath who was against the cardiologist b/c everytime I have been into the ER (at least 12 times) the EKG always came back negative. When I was hooked up to the HR monitor, it was always fine but I had this unsettling feeling like I was having heart issues. All my tests I have ever taken conclude I am a healthy person.

I have a history of meds: anxiety, sleeping pills, anti depressants. I'm the only one in my family that has had numerous mri's xrays and cat scans (exposure to radiation), history of body abuse with ED's and large consumptions of diet products, diet pills and aritficial chemicals to avoid calories. Oh and once a coffee abuser--8 cups a day!

So you see, my underyling weaknesses were too much for me to handle during a juice fast. Even juice fasting was too intense for me at that time. Cleansing and detoxing is very powerful and I had never experienced it b/c that was the first itme in my entire life that I was "caring" for my body and all the enemies were being freed. The fear already existed if something emulated heart like issues so I couldn't handle the fast. my naturopath is the one who discourage me from doing it as I was not "strong" enough.

Gosh, it's weird to look back but I am not so much more stronger and healing at an intense rate. By you bringing this thread back, makes me realize how far I have come.......... :)

Yes, the hard part was realizing that these detox symptoms will remind me of my "heart" but I had alot of underlying anxeity and fear trapped in me about that--an event in my past that I associated it with. I even stopped running at one point in fear of the chest feeling.

I could have still seen a cardiologist to "find" something wrong but even if there was, did I want to rely on drugs and more exposure to radiation? I guess I was looking for answers cuz it would have been a relief to say "so that's the reason I am having these heart like problems and I wouldn;t feel crazy in the head" I thought about this 24/7 and thinkning about thinking. Fear built on fear.

I was still new at RAW ansd learning (loving my body and caring for it). If you're wondering if raw will help you, it WILL. It does have its valleys and peaks..........then there is that level area where you can see the reflection of yourself for the first time. :)

I have to wonder what you are going thru and what kind of symptoms you have been experiecing? Do you mind sharing what you've through? Have you developed a second fear? what i mean is not only is the chest feeling incomfortable and scary but scared about having it?

Thinking good thoughts for you ;)

misslinda...I thought I would chime in. I have delt with blood sugar issues for 11 years. When I first went raw and began to detox I had a few very odd symtoms. BUT since I was familar with the crashes, sweats , heart palpitations I did not seek medical help.

It lasted about two weeks and no matter how I ate I was crashing 3 ish times a day. I felt like I had labored breathing several times a day. I had to think about my breath ! One morning in the shower I had a weird panic type attack and thought I would pass out, then it passed. I did ephedra when competing and a very limited amount of drugs ( in college 25 yrs ago !) but have alwasy been a big coffee fan and as I mentioned reactive hypoglycemic
    since 1994.

Well 5 months Raw...my blood sugar issues are 100% gone and i am feeling fine !

Thanks MissLinda! I am so glad to hear that you are doing so well. I hadn't thought about going back to my naturopath, because I thought of that as more of a one time thing than ongoing, but may be a good idea. She believed in eating for your blood type, so maybe she will tell me I have just been eating too many tomatoes. ;-)

I've had random chest discomfort since end of November, before going raw. Nothing more than 1 or2 on a 10 point scale (and I'm a pain wimp, so probably even less). Moves around - sometimes left, less often center and occasionally right. Not so much pain or pressure as feeling of fullness or maybe very weak pain. Not consistent day to day. Rarely bothers me when I'm distracted, which makes me think maybe I'm just over-obsessing (yes definitely developing that second fear you mention!). Did think about going to the ER on Saturday when it felt like light pressure in the middle and I felt a little light headed as well. Have been working out with no problem until last couple of weeks - mostly recovering from a half marathon on 1/22 and not wanting to do any weight-lifting that might cause confusing chest pain.

Will go to the cardiologist appointment Tuesday, at a minimum to get the arrythmia checked out (picked up twice in a week at blood drives in Nov., but hopefully just normal excercise related stuff). Definitely going to proceed cautiously on any drugs, invasive, etc. If I didn't have really bad history on my dad's side with heart disease, I bet I wouldn't be giving this a second thought.

In the meantime, I'm working toward 100% raw with not too much going sideways. As I said in one post (can't remember if it was my last here or on the other thread), I'm excited about its potential, but want to make sure I don't keel over in the meantime.

Thanks for your good thoughts. If you have other comments, they are most welcome.

I noticed in your profile you are a runner! Moi aussi :)

Do you tend to push yourself in most of areas of your life?

What was your eating and lifestyle like in November or prior to the onset of these symptoms? Any particular life change with someone or something? What really happened?

That chest thing I know can be scary, there are so many things that can cause that.......ribs (t3-t6), gas uprising from stomach into the head (dizziness and discomfort in chest),poor liver/kidney function, clogged arteries etc.

Better yet, how long have you been a distance runner? Are you big on sy protein?

Oooh, you got that one right! The typical type A!

In November I was my usual vegan with a tendency to binge on junk (already I am into raw cheesecake and raw potato chips - highly consistent), not always vegan. Can't remember anything special about the month - recovering from marathon at end of November (my 2nd, I've been doing distance for 2 years), busy with work. Used soy protein, but not what I would consider a lot - didn't use after workouts, for example. Had similar chest discomfort 2 years ago, but it went away faster.

I agree with you that there are many possible explanations. The clogged artery one has me most worried, because my Dad's had that (angina at 44 - ok, was diabetic, wasn't a runner, wasn't vegan, former smoker, etc.). Your comment on liver / kidney function was interesting. I believe I saw another thread on that and depending how things go on Tuesday, I will double-check that.

Thanks for following up. I'll let you know how it goes.
