ive never grown herbs indoors but ive been gardening 10 years so i thought ide chip this in . it looks like the kit your refering to is $30-$40 . you could save money by using your own container , get soil out of yard (something with texture to it so it doesnt harden up around roots choking them out ) and buy seeds at store or mail order from place like pine tree seed company at $1 per pack , e address = www.superseeds.com . and if your not familiar with growing at all the best place in home to put plants is southern exposure window because that gets most sun . and rain or snow water would make your plants much healthier than tap water , and thats not from reading its from personal observation from watching how much better plants start doing in garden after a rain than they were doing previously on sprinkler water .

There isn't enough soil in that container for the number of herbs planted to grow well. Go to a nursery and get startrer plants, and follow michigan's advice for planting.

    Nini,
I grow lots of different herbs indoors in my apartment window. They are easy to grow! I have a long windowbox I made that houses different herbs, and grow some in pots (I just use cheap containers). I have gotten some starter plants, and grown some from seed - and I grow from seed now since it is SOOOO much cheaper than buying the plants. Now if I can only get my basil to last more than a month or two! (Have long-term basil-growing difficulties!!!)
