Enough Protein while Pregnant??
I know that protein has been discussed before, and I never would worry about it while not pregnant, but now I find myself worrying that I am not getting enough. Plus, my midwife is known in this area as being lovingly called the nutrition nazi!! She is all for raw, but while pregnant she wants some a good source of protein at each meal.
Yesterday I wasmaking my green smoothie(which I could barely get down) and I was trying to figure out how much protein was in it,, well not much.
the ingredeints were:
banana
handful of strawberries
handful of spinach
tbs. of coconut butter
ice cubes (ok, i know no protein source there, but I did put it in so I thought I would list it too :)
The spinach is only 2 grm for 1 1/2 cups!!
So my question, how do I make sure I"m getting enough protein????
Thanks for your replys!

First of all, every raw food you eat contains some amount of protein..AND it's not the amount of protein you are getting it's the quality and how much you are assimilating.
Ask her this ~ how many people does she know who have become sick or died from lack of protein. Yanno, people can eat all KINDS of fast foods and no one talks to them about the total lack of nutrition they are getting yet, someone eats the healthiest food program available and people STILL think we need more of SOMEthing ~ especially protein. Sorry about the rant. It's not about you ~ it's about the programming the meat and dairy industry have imbued everyone's minds with ~ which is why I don't watch tv or radio.
Guess I didn't answer your question.

LOVE what Revvell wrote. Just make sure you're getting enough greens in daily. It's the amino acids from those greens that help make protein in your body.
Also, if you so choose, you can get some Hemp Protein seeds or powder from Alissa's online store and add that to smoothies, salad dressings, etc.
But I SO agree with what Revvell said regarding all living foods having assimilable (which is most important) protein.

Thank you Pam, and I'm so sorry to hear about your miscarriage. Having the 3 so early on recently, I can't imagine losing at 12 weeks!!

Hi Jamie.
Karen's post is great, and very true. We don't need as much protein as people believe. Society is generally conditioned to believe that we need tons of protein (from meat) and tons of calcium (from dairy). After all, if they said otherwise, how else would they get people to buy tons of meat and dairy?
Your diet sounds great, but I understand your concerns.
Have you tried incorporating some hemp seeds?
You can buy raw hemp protein and raw hemp butter. It has wonderful amounts of protein as well as other great nutrients.
Every food that you eat has some amount of protein in it. If it makes you more comfortable, just incorporate more raw nut butters into your diet. Spread some raw almond butter on some bananas. Eat plenty of flax seed crackers.

Hey Jamie,
I have been putting my diet in fitday.com. Kale comes up to about 13 grams protein for four cups, easy to down if put in a green smoothie with banana and blueberries, or mango... Also, soaked wheat has 17 grams per cup and lentils have a whopping 52 grams per cup. Sprouting them and putting them on salad, or making a salad from them could greatly boost your protein grams.
