I would love to do a supervised/assisted fast, but I simply don't have the money. I am counting on my own inner guidance and the support here to assist me! VeggieGirl, I'd love to hear more about your fasting experience though! Especially the first week. I plan on starting on a Friday, so that I have the weekend to ease into it, but there is no way for me to get around working and seeing clients.
In other news . . . I didn't get a juicer for Christamas like I thought. I did get a beautiful set of Henckel knives though! I have a very old but working Champion that someone gifted me, so I ordered the new parts for it and should be ready to start fasting January 7th. I'm very excited!

Master Cleanse
I am thinking I will be doing my modified version of this cleanse starting over New Years weekend. I do this 4 times a year, typically for a week at at time. I have done it with Maple syrup, as well as a sugar syrup made from raw cane (I was living in the Caribbean and had access.) This time I am thinking of trying to substitute fresh green apple juice with the lemons. I am not sure if the calorie content will be high enough though. That is why I like the MC because with the 800 -1000 calories a day from the sugars I can function, even at work.
It is interesting, while juice fasting it is not that I get hungry, it is that my mind kind of gets floaty...kinda like I am "high". This doesn't go over too well for me in the line of work I am in, so I typically end up breaking the fast before the 7th day....I agree that doing a supervised fast is imperative if you are doing a true fast. I don't really consider the MC as a fast since you are really getting calories. I guess that is why it is called a cleanse anyway. Perhaps juice fasting is similar I suppose.
Anyway, count me in as support. I may lean on you all too!

Just want to put the word out that my new year's juice fast began today! I'm going to try for 7-10 days this time. My only other time juice fasting was in late October to jumpstart my 100% raw commitment. I did 5 days that time and noticed real improvement in my fibro symptoms (and weight loss.) Anyway, I'll be journaling about it this week and will also look into your journals to see how you're all doing. Sending happy, healthy juice fast wishes out to you all. Hoping detox goes easy on us too...That can be the toughest part, for me at least.

Hi all!
I started my juice fast yesterday and am on day 2. I found myself actually scared to start, but I did it! Yesterday went pretty well and today is smooth so far. I've had a lowgrade pounding headache since yesterday afternoon, but that's about it. A little floaty too, but not awful. I feel "here" but complicated thoughts kind of allude me right now! At this point, I'm planning on continuing through Sunday for a 7 day fast. If I still feel good, I will continue my fast.

good idea Olive, I will do the same--taking it day by day! What are you using for an internal cleanser if at all?
juice fasting,

Nope, no internal cleanser--just juice! Still going strong. I can't seem to get warm though (since yesterday). Kind of annoying to have permanently cold feet and hands! I hope this fades during the fast--I'm having to work with my coat on, lol!

Olive, I'm on Day 3 of my Master Cleanse and I'm freezing too. I keep taking warm showers and turning up the heat.
I have had some detox symptoms, but am doing pretty well. I have lost 9 lbs as of today (in 2.5 days!) and feel great besides the detox. I am sweating really stinky sweat and my tongue is coated. I'm cold and have head and body aches. All of these things are off and on- I know I ate badly for so long that it's going to take quite a while to clean everything out. I hope to stay on this for a while!
Hope you all are doing well with your fasts!

Perfect timing I was just going to report that I am freeeezing too. Interestingly, I find that I am cold when I don't drink enough water to help flush my toxins--I'm going to experiment and see again.
Julie! I am envious of your detox symptoms--I WANT THE STINKY SWEAT AND COATED TONGUE! LOL.
If you guys are looking for a smoother and safer way to rid the toxins, member "askcassyfirst" who works at the digestive center told me about the flaxseed gel tea. Prior to juicing, I was eating ground up flax and OMG my bowels were all day for several days---made a BIG difference. I will be using the tea version for the juice cleanse.
JULIE~~> How's the salt water flush?
OLIVE & Julie ~~> How's the weather where you are at?

I'll try the flax goo on the weekend, when I won't have to leave the house, lol!
It's fairly wet and rainy here with temps in the 50's. Not the nicest weather, but I'm the kind of person that usually runs warm. I definitely think it's the fast!
The most interesting thing about the fast is my lack of hunger. I really expected to have problems with hunger, having many years of compulsive eating issues, but I haven't been at all hungry. I find that so odd!
Oh, I also wanted to get some suggestions for good green juice combos. I'm trying to do lower sugar juices in the morning, as it seems to keep my blood sugar more even. Any ideas?

I'm so glad my B.O. is to be envied. LOL
What flaxseed gel tea are you talking about? I just posted over on the Master Cleanse thread about having elimination issues. I'm trying to figure out the best laxative for me right now. The salt water flush is working, I just think I'm pretty impacted. I'm using Smooth Move senna tea as well. Any suggestions?
As for the weather, it's supposed to be between 0-20 degrees tomorrow with 2-5 inches of snow. It's pretty cold tonight and there are winter storm watches for a lot of places. I haven't been outside much this past week due to my lovely salt water flush (don't want to take any chances lol) so I have no idea what it's really like out there.
I have had a few bouts of hunger but I think they were far more mental than physical. They passed pretty quickly when I got up and started doing something or drank some limeade. One thing that has been hard for me though, is to see SAD food on TV. It makes me so hungry I have to change the channel. I'm avoiding television now and things are just fine.
Happy 4th day!

WOW (!!!!!!!!!!!) You're doing awesomeon the MC--I wanted to do it so bad but onthe 2nd day my ND said not a good idea for me right now. Anyway, how do you like the salt water flush--do you feel like it's harsh on your stomach? When you drink it, do you feel your hands swell up or feet?
I'm going to be making tea out of the flaxseesd---I'll post again with the recipe.
Are you drinking water in between you lemonades? Stay warm and think about how well your doing on the MC--the SAD will look miserable.
cold but sunny today,
linda

My hands and feet aren't swelling at all. I think I'm done doing the salt water flush. It was pretty harsh on my stomach, as was the senna tea. My stomach cramped a lot on the tea. After reading about the other things, I am going to try them. I just did the flax seed gel and mixed it with my limeade, it was fine. I also had two tbsp.'s of Udo's Choice Oil (Flax and other oils), so maybe that will keep things going. I'm heading to Wild Oats tonight to get some of the Renew Life stuff that Cassy was talking about. It was strange, right after I drank the flax gel/ limeade (two minutes ago), I instantly felt better. My head cleared, my stomach stopped hurting, and now I feel great! I am drinking lots of water in between everything.
One thing I was really surprised at was that everyone said that fasting is hard for the first 3 days and then it's fine- that is so true! This is day 4 and fasting is a lot easier. I was struggling a little bit up to last night and it seems to have gone away. I always want food more at night for some reason.
The SAD already looks miserable, I think it's just because it is FOOD that it looked good. LOL I'm settling into the fast now, though. I want to stay on it for a while and let my body really heal and repair itself. I know I need to do a liver flush here pretty soon. Maybe I'll grab one of those tonight too.
