    Default Sprouting beans questions...

    Hi,

Can sprouted beans be frozen, meaning, will they retain their nutrients near to fresh?
(I sprout a fair amount; I don't want them to go bad in the fridge.)

Can green split peas be eaten? I was wondering if I could soak and blend them -- I'm assuming they won't sprout.

I have read that kidney beans are best not sprouted and eaten raw -- any other beans I should know about? I love anasazi, adzuki, cranberry, pintos...

Do red lentils sprout? If not, can these be soaked and consumed?

Also, is whole grain organic yellow cornmeal a raw dried product?

sorry if these sound like overly ignorant questions!

    Thanks! :)

Hi jaurequi! No ignorant questions here. everyone is so helpful and nice and they won't treat you different because you don't have a lot of knowledge. that is what this board is for!!

I don't know about the freezing, peas or kidney beans (don't worry i know the answers to the other ones, lol). REd lentils do sprout and you soak and prepare like your other beans. Just like green lentils in fact.

As for the cornmeal it probably depends on how it was processed in the first place. If it was ground fresh and then dehydrated at low temp 100-110 then it would be raw. Alissa has a recipe for cornmeal to make cornbread. PM me if you don't have the book.

Thank you, Just Me, for replying! I appreciate it :).

I notice when I look for yellow peas, they are "split" -- I'm assuming these, along with green splits cannot be sprouted? I saw a site (can't recall which) which called for sprouting yellow peas: they looked just like the yellow split peas...

Can anyone answer my other questions than JustMe wasn't able?

Can someone, please, direct me to an expert/professional on raw foods who would know these things?

    Thank you!

P.S. Oh, and JustMe, I ordered Alissa's book; I should be receiving it tomorrow.
