    Question Raw chewing gum chewers?

I LOVE chewing gum. Always have, don't know if I could or would want to give up chewing. Perhaps once everything is all cleaned out from within (my body) whatever it is that makes me have such a desire for it will leave as with anything else...but until then...

I know that sugar-based gums aren't good. I do sugar-less, but I also realize that the artificial sweeteners (amongst other ingredients perhaps) aren't good either.

I've seen and tried more "natural" gums at the wholefoods store. Oftentimes I'll buy it but when I run out, I turn to what's locally conveniet, Wrigley's Extra brand.

So, what are your thoughts on raw fooders chewing gum? Do any of you chew?

    TIA!

    Cherie

I don't chew gum because I always bite my cheeks and that hurts!

The only thing that I've heard about gum chewing is that it increases the amout of stomach acid when you chew. When on a juice diet it wouldn't be a good idea (or so I've heard) because it increases hunger.......Kirk

@Kristi: Yeah, I know that feeling! I've bitten the inside of my jaw from eating and then it's like once you bite it, it's gets a little swollen and then you end up biting it again and again if not EXTREMELY careful

@Kirk: Thanks, yeah I learned it's not good to chew when fasting or juice fasting.

Ok...here's my dirty little secret. Yes I claim to be 100% raw, but I chew 2-3 dentyne ice's a day. That's it though! that's my only secret. I've been outed. So I guess I'm only 99.97%

Just a little something I have found to be similar to chewing gum...Pinapple core! If you chew gum to keep your breath fresh this will do you no good but if you like to chew gum simply for the chewing habit, try a little pineapple core. You can chew it for very long periods of time but after awhile it doesn't taste as sweet or as good so I spit it out.

Analeah, you are awesome! Adapting to stay raw and still have the comforts you enjoy is fabulous! There is no "RAW" chewing gum that can be purchased, the chemicals, artificial flavors and colors in gums are toxic and nasty and so keeping it natural like you have is such a good choice! :)

Wow!! Thanks for that idea Analeah! Yeah it's mainly for a chewing habit with me. I also thought about those chew sticks (not sure how healthy or raw those are); but I'm definitely gonna try the pineapple core.

Thanks for the encouragement ConsciousCuisine and Rawkinlocs(I love your screen name and your hair btw)! I am so glad I found this site but I only wish I had found it sooner. It is so comforting to get the chance to converse with other people of the same mindset and who are going through what you are going through. I am pretty new at this but I love to get creative and try new things all the time. A couple days ago I was in the mood for some dessert after dinner so I mixed together a few things and it turned out crunchy and chewy and really yummy! It was easy to make and only used a few ingredients. I had some sprouted wheat in the fridge which were maturing fast so I wanted to use them before it turned into wheat grass. I also had some sprouted red rice and I mixed it with some raw almond butter and honey (but I am sure dates would be just as good if not better) and put it all into a bowl of whole flax seeds I had soaking for a few hours. Then I added a few raisins and ate it just like that. I wished I could have tried dehydrating it as I think it would make a wonderful chewy breakfast bar or cookie etc but I don't have a dehydrator. Anyway if you ever have things lying about that seem unlikely to mix together, get creative and go with it. The worst that can happen is you will find out it doesn't taste too good. Anyway the next time you get a pineapple try the core out and let me know what ya think! I know its not the same as gum but just think of the fact that instead of putting chemicals and artificial sweeteners into your body you are putting natural, nutrutious pineapple gooodness instead!
