Default I broke my blender making a smoothie, vitamix question..

Hi everyone..I had bought a Black and Decker blender..pretty good model. My third time using it I had put frozen organic mango slices with a banana and fresh squeezed oj to make smoothie and it kinda burnt out with the frozen mango. Coudn't crush it I suppose because the the mango was too solid. Smoke started flowing out from the base and the washer thingy between canister and base is now stripped. I can't find my receite and I'm not sure if I contact the company they could send me a replacement part.

Does vitamix handle all the frozen fruit? If I can't make a smoothie with frozen fruit it would make the Vitamix a necessacity not an option.

I have a Hamilton-Beach blender (very inexpensive and I've had it a while now) and I make smoothies with frozen strawberries and/or frozen bananas all the time. The trick is, you have to pulse-chop the frozen fruit (or ice) into these blenders before running it on full blast as to avoid stressing the blades and/or motor.

But from what I've heard, a Vita-mix could handle the job virtually effortlessly.

    Let's "smooth it out"!

I do frozen fruit in mine. Helps to have liquid in it yet, we've taken just the frozen fruit and made "pudding" out of it.

I bought a very cheap Hamilton Beach from Walmart, and use it all the time with frozen fruit. I think the trick is to use some water, and pulse it to start it blending. If I were you I would check into returning your blender, maybe it was defective?

    Hi, 1-icurn,

You should chop up your fruit (especially frozen); this helps with blending. You may want to add a splash of water -- if your recipe doesn't call for water/liquid -- or more to help as well.
Also, adding the ingredients incrementally helps quite a bit. I do this while the blender is running; but sometimes, stopping and stirring the ingredients around helps too since sometimes there is so much stuff in there, it gets compacted too tight and it can also get a bit clogged under the blade.
You can try putting in your liquid, wet, and juicy ingredients first, then your more bulky items.
