How does everyone store dates? would it be better to keep them in a jar or fridge? and how long is there shelf life?

The organic Mejool dates I get at the healthfood store are already refridgerated, so I keep them that way. Sometimes I take them out for 20 minutes to sit (they soften up more when at room temp) before slathering them with cashew butter and stuffing my face.

I store them as I buy them. If they are refrigerated in the store then I place them in the fridge. If they are on a shelf then that is where they go.

I keep all my dried fruits in the refrigerator during the summer because my pantry gets very warm and I worry about mold. During the winter, I will put them in either the fridge or the pantry - whichever has more room!

I buy medjools in a bin at Whole Foods at room temp...my question is...after a couple of weeks of being stored well (I think) in ziploc bags and then in a large tupperware container they still dry out a bit....I love them when they are fresh but restraint dictates that I only have a couple at a time!

Can I soak them in a bit of water and will it return their plump wonderfulness more or less?

    Thanks!!
