Default Do nuts make you retain water?

I had been eating nuts quite frequently over the last several weeks. During this time I noticed that I was more bloated than normal.

I finally decided to stop eating the nuts and in just a couple of days I could tell that I lost a lot of water weight. In fact, the scale showed around a 5 pound loss.

I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this and if some people just don't do well eating nuts.

    Are your nuts salted/spiced?
That could cause water weight gain. When I spice mine with Nama Shoyu (which is salty) I usually have this happen.

most of us will get disentended or bloat from eating nuts.......especialy if they are not soaked. even if raw, they still have fat.

I have been using soaked almonds and walnuts that aren't soaked made into balls with dates etc.. None of them are salted.

Faith--what's your food intake like. how long hav you been raw? helath issues?

most of us that are raw use to eat more nuts than we actually thought and resulted in bloating then there is food combo (mixing nuts and fruit) issue that some of us have xperienced--result bloating as well. somepeople become more sensitive to dehyrated foods are don't drink enough water while consuming dehydrated,

I have been raw for 3 months. I just had a baby 2 weeks ago. It has only been since about a week before he was born that I started craving fats. I normally eat very little.

I was a vegan for 9 years before going raw. I ate a McDougall style diet which is very low in fat. I have always felt great eating that way. I went raw because I have always wanted to try it. Now I am addicted!!!!

I typically start my day with some carrot juice. Sometimes I add spinach or celery or both. A little bit later I have some buckwheat sprouts blended with flax along with a pear and banana.

For lunch I have a huge green salad with carrots, snap peas, avocado lately and other veggies. I usually have 2 apples along with this.

For a snack I might have a couple of bananas.

Dinner is usually a salad like lunch time followed by a smoothie or fresh fruit or a buckwheat cereal with fruit like at breakfast time.

Since I have been craving fat, I have been eating raw brownies made from almonds, sesame seeds and dates. I have also been eating the blueberry truffles that I have been making from walnuts, dates, carob, and blueberries. They are so good. I didn't seem to have as much of a problem with those it was mainly the brownies. I can't seem to tolerate almonds much even when soaked.

    So what do you think?

I'm wondering why you think it's water weight? Is it because you lost it within a few days (are you losing weight overall since going raw?)? Or ... ?? (I'm not challenging you -- I hope it doesn't sound that way -- I'm just asking

At 3 months, your body is still adapting to eating raw. If you were following MacDougall, you were eating lots of grains and complex carbohydrates. Your body will take a while to switch over to the way you're eating now. Bloating can definitely be a result of that. Also, as misslinda hinted at, you may wish to eat according to food combining rules. Eating fruits and nuts together ... or within a close time period ... can definitely cause bloating since your body can't digest them well together.

Overall, though, you seem to be eating a very reasonable diet although low on plant fats (though now you're adding that in with the brownies, etc.). In addition, to changing the order of what you eat (food combining) you might try adding a quart of green smoothie, though, to see how that might benefit you.

What a gift you're giving you child by eating raw! You'll be a phenomenal example for him.

Hello, I have read on other sites that buckwheat sprouts can make a person sensitive to sunlight. Have you noticed this at all? BTW, congratulations on your new baby. :)

I'm not the OP, but I've sure eaten my share of sprouted buckwheat when I was making raw granola and raw breads with it -- no sunlight sensitivity. Hmmmm ... that's one I hadn't heard before!
