new to fasting
Hi,
I am interested in doing a fast before I go raw. Is there a prefast before a fast? Or is there things that I can eat/ do to make it easier to transition into a fast better? I havent desided what kinda fast to do yet although I am leaning towards a juice fast. I have a sensitive tummy so I dont wanna shock my system by just jumping in cold turkey I would prefer to ease into it. Any help/ideas would be greatly appriciated.

hi Miette,
most definately it's a nice transition to at least give youself a day or two of eating light........fruits are a great way to go or lite soups or salads. I find ending the day with fruit works well.
be aware that wheening off a fast is as important.

Misslinda,
Thank you for the advice. I had not even thought of the end of the fast. I need to learn alot before I do this. Would I just eat fruit to come off the fast then slowly introduce veggies and then nuts?

Miette,
I did my first juice fast about a month ago for 12 days. It's quite an experience. The whole purpose is to shut down the digestive system so it can concentrate on cleaning, cleansing, detoxifying and rebuilding.
It's not uncommon to experience a slowing in blood pressure, dizziness, coldness or irritability.
Day 1 is usally the toughest.
I've read that 5 days is desirable for at least some type of deeper level cleansing.
Myself, I will be using a salt water flush to eliminate debris, fecal matter and toxins that have made its way to the colon----every monring. Some people do not do an eliminating so it is at your descretion. Most juice fasting/fasting sites suggest you do an elimination the morning of the first day of fasting.
If you decide to, I would suggest staying away from senna leaf. The most popular means are home enemas or salt water flush.
Becuase the digestive system has been shutdown, it's a good thing to be gently when working back into solid food. Many sites suggest orange juice the first day or juice of some kind. More ideas would be bananas, apples pretty much fruits--chewed very well as we sshould e anyways. I dont' know if you are 100% raw but soups (raw) or broths.
hmmm. what else is there about juicing.........

I would suggest also reading the book, The Miracle of Fasting by Paul and Patricia Bragg if you are new to fasting. Full of a lot of information on fasting and how to eat healthy (they don't advocate 100% raw but do say it should be at least 60-70% raw) That book convinced me that I didn't need herbal laxative teas nor salt water flushes to get the outcome I wanted.

here is an exerpt about fasting...............
[[[When fasting is examined in terms of health, the two most popular types of fasts are juice fasting and distilled water fasting. Although fasting experts differ in the type of fasts that they believe is most effective, they all agree on the following. If the energy used for digestion is available for cellular repair, elimination, and rejuvenation, the body will begin to purify and heal itself by utilizing its reserve in inverse order of important. Fat, tumors, and damaged cells go first, vital muscle tissue and essential organs last.]]]]
Livenraw,
what was the longest fast you did? no elimination assistance at all? what do you do instead--wait until wheenzing off?
