    Default Finger Foods

I was wondering what you all give your babies for finger foods? My youngest is now 11 mos and besides breast milk, gets just bananas, avocado, apple grated, pears, coconut oil, raw tahini. But, she likes to munch crunchy things, like a couple of croutons or crackers or pretzels. I don't really like giving her anything that has grains. Any suggestions?

    Blessings,
    Lori

    Hi Lori,

Can you make some raw crackers or order some one line? I know at 11 months, my grandson just started to eat solids and only took in fruit at that age. Since your daughter has already had the taste of pretzels and crackers, I would see if you could convert her to some raw crackers.

Grains are addicting and it may be hard to just stop her from eating them, so finding something close to them, like raw crackers, would probably help, IMHO. I would also start incorporating carrot sticks and celery as Revvell suggested. Cucumbers are a little crunchy too. And squash. I was amazed at how good raw squash tastes (the little yellow goose neck squash).

Thank you for your suggestions! I probably won't do the raw carrots or celery because I think she would choke on the chunks...she can bite off quite a bit with just 4 teeth! :) But the raw crackers or raw squash sound good. I don't think she will mind the removal of crackers at this point. She's not attached to them...yet. Any suggestions for crackers to make? Or has anyone made raw 'pretzels?'

    Thanks, again!

    Blessings,
    Lori

    Hi Lori,

Look for recipes in Alissa's book. If you don't have her book yet, look at some of these recipes:

My 2-yr. old granddaughter was eating raw crackers -- Alissa's basic flax crackers (made with a bit less garlic and ginger than usual) -- at about your baby's age. The flax seeds mostly went straight through her since she didn't have "grinding" teeth, yet, but she just loved the crunchiness.
