intro and question..
Hi everyone
I'm 26 years old and i'm English, i'm happy to have found you all!
I am about to move home to England to Surrey after spending nearly 3 years in Brussels Belgium coz my finace got propmoted here. It's been totally amazing, I found raw food, health and my myself in this time - I am so lucky (blessed) to have had this time and not had to work even. Before that time I had asthma and loads of allergies and felt depressed that I couldn't live naturally, the natural world hurt my body and that felt awful - now after 2 years of very high raw (100% with lapses into binging) I no longer take any asthma or allergie medicines - I am FREE and NATURAL I can't describe how great this feels!
One thing is left though, and I was wondering if anyone has any ideas or experience on this.
So my journey into raw has led me into a more and more simple way of eating, now my body asks for proper simple food combining and my digestion is very sensitive. I can't eat nuts or seeds at the moment even alone and soaked. Before I left the UK I was diagnosed with PCOS (cysts onthe ovaries) with in my case went hand in hand with insulin resistance. So basically I believe my pancreas is tired and doesn't digest stuff especially proteins very well. So I am taking as of yesterday systemic enzymes and a couple of herbal teas to help this and hopefully help the pcos go too so I can ovulate. Anyway, I'm babbling. My question is about blood sugar...
I get sugar cravings at night after my salad when I eat fruit in the day.
I just did a 5 day water fast then went onto a very low GI diet for a week, that stopped the cravings which was cool but it was also very high fat (avos) which I found out is not good for getting the bloodsugar level normal. So I have reintroduced my fruit as normal and i'm a lot happier with my fruit for sure! Thing is, these sugar cravings/blood sugar balance.
Is there anyone out there who can help me on how to balance my blood sugar during the day?
I live fine on fruit all day, I don't get dizzy or hyper or anything but right after an enormous salad (low fat) in the vening I crave and crave. And i'm sure now it's a physical craving as it was not there when I was on low GI.
I'm still not eating carbs like carrots and corn and peas by the way, just added bananas yesterday though.
I'm confused and I really want to believe that my diet before which I was really happy on can work for me. That's fruit 'puds' or whole fruit in the day and salad later, I am eating loads of greens too which feels good.
I hope all that made sense!
Long into eh lol
Lots of love and peace,
And thank you Alissa for this wonderful site!

Hello Thunderdancer,
Welcome to the boards.
Could you tell me a few more things about your diet in order to get a clearer idea? My first thought was that you are not eating enough greens but at the end you say you are eating loads.
You state that you are 'living on fruit' and then a salad at night. When are you eating all the greens?
Maybe you can list what your typical day is like (or two) so there is a better understanding of your diet?
Looking to hear more about your daily regime, thanks.

Hi Bob,
Thank you soooo much for replying, excellent idea, I will tell you what my typical day is (not including the past week of fasting on water then a week following that of phase 1 of Gabriel Cousens' anti candida rainbow regimen then last week slowly adding back low GI fruit then the past few days normal..) so normal for me doesn't change much it's this:
1st meal (sometimes) - blended up melon with a little ginger
2nd meal - bananas and berries blended into a pud or eaten whole
3rd meal (if I didn't have the melon) - same as 2nd meal
4th meal - large salad (a serving bowl size) of lettuce and chopped celery, tomato and peppers (sweet) with the following belended and poured on - 2 large handfuls of spinnach, an avo or little omega oil, lemon juice, olives to taste, 2 sticks celery, cucumber to thin it out or orange (without olives) to do the same and for a little sweetness.
So my greens are in that evening salad. As much spinnach as I can blend I will put in there, watercress too actually.
Its about an hour after this salad that I crave sweet stuff - banana dipped in honey (!) for example and once I start I want to keep stuffing, so something must be missing/out of balance. I didn't have these cravings when I didn't eat fruit, the mental binge cravings were entirely different, I learned a lot about them and how to deal with those in my fast. This is physical and hard.
I forgot to add that I know exercise plays a great role in helping with blood sugar - I don't at the moment but i'm working on that )
Thank you so much for your help.

I have a similar eating plan to you, although I eat more fruit in the day. I've had the 'carb craving' also, as I've seen it described elsewhere. What was recommended to me, works for me. It was to eat a sweet fruit prior to the evening salad or after the evening salad. So I usually choose mango or and orange. And I don't get the craving any more.

thanks lil :)
I can't eat fruit just after the salad without getting bad digestion (I have to food combine really strictly at the mo - one of the things that's happened going more and more into raw) - and if I eat 1 peice I just want more and more. BUT it worked really well the other day when I had my green salad in the day and had a fruit pud at night, as long as I leave at least 3 hours between its cool.
I'm working on going to bed earlier too which I think's going to really help and getting up earlier and exercising so that will sort out my hunger and eating patterns I hope.
Trying to go with my body
