Bloated and Crampy
Hi Guys.
Towards the end of the work day or mid afternoon I seem to get Bloated and Crampy. Has anyone else felt like this? Is this part of the detox? I am trying to have less fruit becuase I read someone else was bloating after eating too much fruit. I have like 5 mandarins today and the rest was nuts, and pesto and veggies. I don't even eat a lot of nut. Can anyone out there help me?

Sarena, it is not the fruit, but poor food combining that causes this. It is a very common problem amongst new raw foodists. (Your post is one of very many of the kind. :) ) So, you could benefit from applying some simple food combining rules. For example, it is best to eat fruit on an empty stomach, and preferably one type of fruit at a time. Otherwise, fruit sits on top of other food that you've eaten, rots and causes bloating. Watermelon should be eaten only mono. Sweet fruit with sweet fruit, acidic fruit with acidic/subacidic fruit, greens with acidic fruit, are examples of some simple rules that are useful. Minimize the use of hard-to-digest vegies (those with high celulose content). Proper chewing is important too!
Best,
Gosia.

I don't think you should limit fruit;the bloating is mostly temporary.
I get bloated from fruit (even mono eating) when I don't chew the food well (eating too fast and gulping air too); when I eat unripe or old fruit (like soft, bruised apples); or when I overeat.
Certain fruits are notorious for being gassy -- apples are one, grapes another, raisins as well. If you continue to eat these fruits, the gassiness will go away as your body acclimates to them.
You can also choose less gassy fruits if it continues to be a problem, or choose monoeating your fruit.
Pineapples are wonderful for many stomach issues...just be careful to brush after eating it (or at least rinse till you can get home to brush).

This is very helpful info!! I also peel my apples and that has helped my gas problem tremendously. I also have to chew slowly and take digestive enzymes. I find anything I eat bloated me more around the 2 weeks before my cycle. Are you also soaking your nuts???
My ? is that I find I bloat/gas up more when I eat fruit in the afternoon or night versus the morning. Am I alone on this?? It happens even on an empty stomach???

Sarena, it is easier to digest fruit when you eat one type of fruit at a time. Even when your stomach seems empty, the digestion further down the digestion track is still going on. This is why it is recommended to avoid eating early in the morning, if you can, as the yesterday's food is still being digested. Also, if you eat hard to digest stuff earlier in the day and fruit later, then again, fruit sits on top of undigested foods and ferments. So, for best digestion, eat fruit only in the morning, and one type of fruit at a time, for best results. Appropriate time intervals between meals made of different foods help too. And, it is best to leave dense foods till later in the day. (I tend to eat fruit all day and salads in the evening.)
All the best,
Gosia.
