Default How do I know whats in season?

How do I know what produce is in season for my area?
I would like to focus on foods I will be able to get the best price on.

I thought mangos were expensive, so I waited, now they are even more expensive. I wish I had enjoyed them before.

    Thanks,
    Melissa

Go to your local farmers' markets rather than buying your produce in a grocery store. Whatever the growers are selling at the farmers' market is in season since they grow it within a short distance from where you live.

So, it kinda depends on where you live.

p.s. Many mangoes are grown in Ecuador and shipped here (I haven't found a decent one in months -- they just don't ripen - they're submerged in boiling water in order to be imported here and, if they're really unripe, I don't think they truly ripen). Tropical fruits aren't included in the chart.

depending on your country and ease of receiving produce that is flown in, you can have almost anything in season now.

We just got cherries in our local market, and my cherry trees won't be blooming for at least two months. LOL

And yet, we can always find most veggies fresh and organic at our local Health Food store, and markets.

We can even find peaches now, and I didn't think they would be in season for several months.

But I do live within one hour of a major city (Seattle) and where I live, there are many Asian markets, and sometimes they fly in their own produce, so I can get fresh durian anytime of the year, at a really reasonable price, where most of the country can't. Too bad I don't care for it. LOL

Anyway, just go to your local market, or health food store, and buy what the local farmers have brought in, it is that simply, you will also find that when you eat raw, you will want to eat pretty much what is in season, and have a kind of desire to eat something, then you will find out it is in season.

I was craving cherries the other day, went to the store, and their they were, all bright and beautiful and juciy and fresh, hummm, maybe I should go eat some now.:)
