Hi! I've been really busy and not to much time on the computer. I will write out my "techniques" someday not promising when cause it would take some time. Also want to look at trainers web... but anyway I would suggest lots of chlorella, spirilina and sprouts for protein while you are dieting and 1 TBS of flax for your fat source. I am going to N.Y.C. for Thanksgiving next year...how about joining me for lunch at a raw resturant...staying with SAD cousin would be great to have a break! :) If your raw you should be able to eat right up to competition day, lots of water until mid day fri., decrease salt and carb up by eating fruit every couple of hours.

Edie, yes if you are ever in NY let me know !!

I am not doing a show right now. I was going to retire but I am getting the itch to do a show. So maybe in summer or fall 06...So I hae time to workout my "food plan" if I do take the stage again.

I had a few set backs in the gym this last year off season with work schedule and building a new home, an injury...change to Raw Lifestyle !! So alot depends on rebuilding some muscle I lost from that and the previous year of show diets !

    Hi Twinee,

This is a great question as I have been wondering the same thing -
I am thinking about doing a local show in Aug 2006, and it would be my first show ever on RAW!
Unfortunately, I have been using trial and error when it comes to my diet, since I am the only raw foodist I know in the city! (not to mention my gym) I have a pretty solid idea about how to go about things for the next 7 or 8 months (I figure I can tweak here and there as things come up)....but in the weeks leading up to the show, I am not sure how things will go. I am wondering if I will need any real dieting at all...
I really feel like I am starting over with this whole thing - I am watching my body to see how it will react, and am learning what works and what doesn't all over again.
Thanks for the tips Edie...I eat hemp oil, seeds and protein as well as spirulina and sprouts (but I know I should add more sprouts - I just don't like eating too much at once). I have never had chlorella though - I will look into it. So far, things are going well for me - but I have to really watch that I eat enough, especially since I am looking to put on more muscle

Twinee, keep us posted about your progress!
It would be great to have someone to chat with about this....and you have alot more experience at it than me!

ps: If you have any more tips, post away!

Rawcanadagirl, If you don't want to loose muscle I would invite you to eat atleast every 3 hours and make sure you never go over 10 hours at night and WITHIN 1 hour of your workout. It is way more important than how much you eat. I am on this cleansing diet that Dr. cousins put me on, Phase one (no sugar) and no nuts and seeds except flax meal and coconut oil. Anyway I really thought I was going to loose mass but I am doing it for my health right now. But I am feeling terrific and the last few workouts I have lifted heavier than I have in 3 years with no struggle... wow I'll keep you posted ... I support you both Twinee1 and rawcanadagirl hang in there we can do it! EDIE :) Spirilina and chlorella are 70% protein I eat ATLEAST 6 TBS per day...

I have not done a show raw, not to mention the fact I always did it with chicken veggies egg whites and things like that. May two days before my show I would eat only lean beef /grapefruit or chicken and grapefruit !! So
it will be interesting to do a show Raw once at least just for the experience !
If I do a show it would be may June 06.

rawcanadagirl..what city do you live in ? I am also the only raw foodie in my city, that I know of. There is a Vegan community but that is not raw !!

Edie, I picked up the chlorella, some wheat grass, and barley grass in pill form. I already do the Perfect Greens and Spirulina. I like the pill form as I tend to not take some of this stuff due to the taste !!

    Have a good day !

    L.

It is good to have you both for feedback.

    Twinee1,
I hear you about the taste of some of those potent grasses. I can't even stand the smell of wheatgrass! I have been trying to build up my tolerance slowly, by adding them to green smoothies (I want to one day be able to actually drink a shot of wheatgrass).

I am from Ottawa. I know that there is a couple in the city that have a raw food website/small business that they are trying to expand. They have begun to have raw potlucks once a month, but it's bad timing for me, and I can never make it.
It is great though, to be able to connect with others online.
I haven't met anyone in the fitness world who has any respect for the raw food lifestyle. Hopefully I can help change their mind!

Me either. So we will test the waters ! Those in the BB, Fitness world are addicted to set ideal's and not willing to change them. Are they right ? Can it be done Vegan and Raw ? I think so !!!!!!!!!!

I know two gals can do it the Raw Vegan way and I will right behind you with my support. I know that green stuff takes some getting use to... I used to gag on carrot juice and now everything I eat is green. I take chlorella and make it into a paste and use it on celery like almond butter. The scarey thing is I LOVE HOW IT TASTES So I am not suggesting for you to try it but if you are patient your tastes will change, you will be suprized. Back to the greens in capsule form... thats great but if you are wanting to use them for protien you need to get atleast 1 TBS at a meal. Not sure how many that is but I know that it takes 14 capsules to equal 1 TBS of flax oil. So it can get kinda expensive ( so is all those "other SAD bodybuilding" supplements ) To save alot buy some empty capsules and a bottle of greens, powder form and fill your own...unless the $ don't bother you. I highly recomend those superfoods for a big source of protein. Since starting I have never felt protien starved on this diet...without them I find myself craving cooked protein which never made me feel even close to as good as raw. RAW! RAW! :) EDIE

Default Your food and workout schedules

Hi- wow this is so neat to read. I am into exercise and I'd really like to hear about your normal daily diets and exercise regimines. I want to come cheer you on in NY and have lunch at Quitessence!

What can you say about fruit consumption and gaining muscle? I probably have about 4-5 servings of fruit per day, and I just can't seem to get the final edge in terns of fitness and body-fat. Are the correlated?

Panda Bear. I am tracking my diet and training (not daily but give you idea of what I am doing) in my Journal. You can check in from time to time.

The fruit is very individual, some handle it better than others. IMO I think in the Physique Competition realm you need to be more selective and favor the Plants over the Fruit. There are many advocates of fruit and endurance being great but in the type of competition we do it is not about endurance..it is all look...Muscular and super Lean & in Figure (which I do ) symmetry, muscle and low bodyfat.

Eddie, hope you are right about the greens. I have some that reads great on the label..but gag me on taste. So I will put it in capsules..good idea !!

    Hi PandaBear,

I don't eat too much fruit. I a serving or two every morning in a green smoothie, but to be honest I like veggies much more. Fruit is always seems either too sweet or too acidic (except bananas), and the climate up here limits the variety and quality - especially this time of year. I eat a ton of greens and veggies though, plus lots of fats like nuts, seeds, oils, and avocado. I eat quite often too - every few hours. I also find that my blood sugar - and therefore energy level - becomes too erratic if I eat fruit often (especially on its own)
    Hope this helps

Twinee1 just thought I would mention alittle more in detail about the fruit thing when carbing up that I talked about before. It is really important that it is SMALL AMOUNTS frequently cause if to much it's easy to spill over. Fruit fills the muscle. Greens pull water out of your skin. I envite you to play around with this in your off season! Anyway I agree with all of the fruit comments made by Twinee1 and Rawcanadagirl... :)
GOOD LUCK Twinee1 on your green adventure

Edie....so true fruit has always been taboo in competition prep, except for grapefruit. I eat that for it diurectic effect. Most competitors limit veggies to (as you already know) the last week as they are concerned about the fiber and bloat...but that is also a bi product of the fact they are not used to veggies and fiber and it is a new introduction to them. Add it to the high protein and No wonder they have the gas/bloat !

So as you say, play with it off season. Yesterday I made a Juice of a Bunch of Celery, handful of parsley and a large cucumber (seedless) and WOW with in a few hours I was releasing water, lots of it ! This would be a great PMS drink for water weight gain !

    Thanks for the tips.

I know everyone is different and there is no guarantee that my beliefs will work for you but it is not true in my opinion about the veggies and fiber but I know what your saying about SAD dieting. Now for raw eaters... it is about acid and alkaline, minerals, glucose (to fill muscles) fat for endurance. I believe that fat is very important. The kind of fat how ever is even more important. Nuts and seeds can easily be over used especially if one is lookig for a protein source. Nuts and seeds are hard to digest and assimulate. What we don't assimulate you will see between your muscle and your skin. You need to eat too much, to get enough protien...again why I am such a green fan. I get ripped on low sodium veggies. Red pepper asparragus, cucumber and high potassium greens! greens! but you can't do it for long cause it will throw you out of balance....we need sodium... :) EDIE
