    Question Question about carrot juice

My new juicer arrived today..I,m excited to start experimenting.

My last trip to Whole Foods I bought carrot juice and I have to be honost and say even cold from the fridge it didn't taste all that good. Is this just an aquired taste kind of thing? Is there anything I can do to maybe make it taste a little better? I don't want to be turnded off to juicing just because of one bad experience. Yikes...I haven't even gotten to the green stuff yet.

I'm confused. You say you purchased a juicer and you don't like the purchased, bottled, pasturized carrot juice. Why don't you try it freshly made and see if you like it or not? IF you try it freshly made and you don't like it, juice up some apples and mix them together. You might add some ginger to the blend also.

I'm thinking you may find that what you make yourself, using fresh, organic ingredients may taste much better than the over processessed pasturized so-they-don't-have-any-nutrients-or-viable-enzymes stuff.

I have always found carrot juice pretty yucky too. Straight carrot, ick, carrot ginger at Wild Oats, puke! But I got a juicer and started juicing carrots and apples together and it is so good I have two large glasses every morning, over ice. A little apple makes a difference.

The only carrot juice I've ever had is what I juiced myself. I've had carrot only and carrot mixed with other fruits and veggies and I like it either way.

The carrot juice I bought was from Whole Foods and it's organic and not pasterized, and I still wasn't crazy about it. Thank You for the tip about apple juice, I am going to add it tomorrow.

I think it may be accumulating to taste. The first time I tried raw carrot juice (back in 1974), I thought it was disgusting. However, times change! I love raw carrot juice all by itself. It is also good mixed with apple juice and other sweeteners, but, I can drink carrot juice all by itself now.

Your taste buds will change, the further you go into raw.

    Blessings.

I second the carrot and apple! Carrot juice is great with apple juice mixed in. :) Maybe a small slice of ginger, although I'm not too big on ginger yet. It is growing on me a little though... ;)

Carrot-Orange is excellent, the orange masks the taste of carrot

the first time I had carrott juice, it was from a centrifugal juicer, and the person who made it was very stressed, the juice was terrible.

then I made it myself, but I did several things differently.

I used fresh carrotts, athat I cut the ends off because they can be bitter, I peeled the carrott (although I no longer do this) because the peel can be bitter, and I made the juice with lots of love, and drank it immediately.

I have put the juice in the fridge for a few hours, and it was good, but not nearly as good as freshly made carrot juice.

    Carrot juice oxidizes very quickly.

so, you may try that, or you may try adding some other things, some people add other juice, such as apple or celery, or the ginger as stated above, others add water, or orange juice, as stated above, but carrot juice is a basis for many wonderful juices.

If you don't care for carrot juice, you may with to make carrot soup, which uses carrot juice, sea salt, some tomatoes and some garlic. it is excellent.

I remember the first time I drank carrot juice (about 13 years ago) It was one of the most awful experiences Now I am 100% raw. You don't have to drink carrot juice to eat raw. Over the years I developed a taste, but it is still not one of my favorites :) EDIE

Love my carrot juice fresh squeezed! Always have liked the taste for some reason. However, the sweetness does depend on the quality of the carrots. And as RP states it is good to clip the ends of the carrots. I also clip the tips and do not peel the carrots as long as they're organic -- make sure you wash and scrub well though. I've heard the carrot skin contains many high-quality nutrients. If your carrots have cracks/slits it is good to cut those out too to avoid getting impurities in your juice. The carrots will oxidize fast. Because of this, its good to use a juicer such as the Green Star that processes the carrots in a way that keeps the juice fresher longer. I've stored my carrot juice in containers full (to avoid oxidation) and kept in the fridge for 3 days and it tastes excellent even then. If you find there's lots of pulp left over when you juice, it is best to screen the pulp out. I don't even mess with the apples or anything else 'cause I'm a carrot juice freak.

Tip: If you are storing juice in a container, you can place some saran wrap over the top of the liquid to avoid some oxidation. Otherwise, it is best to find containers and fill them full to keep out the oxygen.

    Cheers, fiddler
