Does anyone know if those with a gluten intolerance can have wheatgrass? Is it actually derived from wheat?

Regarding the taste of wheatgrass, it's important to point out that not all wheatgrass tastes the same. If it's grown too quickly or not under ideal conditions, it may taste sickly sweet or extremely bitter. One needs to learn how best to grow it (for example, real SOIL, sufficiently DEEP soil to allow the roots room to grow, good quantities of minerals provided to the roots, good ventilation, sufficient spacing between the seeds, and natural non-direct sunlight are just a few vital ingredients for proper wheatgrass growing).

But as far as homegrown wheatgrass goes, even the stuff grown 'properly', the simple fact of how fast it grows in a forced, small-tray environment means that it does not properly convert all it's simple sugars and thus it is almost unavoidable that homegrown wheatgrass tends to taste at least a little sickly-sweet.

I should finish by saying that although homegrown wheatgrass does tend to taste pretty sickly by comparison with mature wild grasses, I still grow and consume it myself, from time to time, and it definitely IS as powerful as people say it is; it's remarkable stuff.

I drink fresh grown wheatgrass just about every day during the winter. I do take some days off here and there. I rarely drink it straight, but mix it with things. Heck even water is better than straight. Then I enjoy it.

I juice a small piece of lemon (about 1/8 of a whole lemon, rind included) in with wheatgrass and I find it cuts the sweet taste nicely. *Ü*

i wouldn't make a cult out of any one single superfood. yeah some foods such as chia seeds, wheatgrass, chlorella etc. are better than others but it is the diet overall that results in health - not any one food.
looking at a particular food as a pill that will take care of a certain health condition is precisely the kind of mentality that got america where it is today - in the gutter. if anything what you don't eat is more important than what you do. i don't believe any beings in nature ever suffered because they forgot to take their chlorella or missed a shipment of chia seeds.

is that there are 60 ingredients in there with no apparent focus on any one of them. whether you think cavemen got it right or monkeys did they were certain to get a wide variety of food, and that should be the focus in the diet imho - variety.

Gluten comes from processed food. Wheat Grass is unprocessed so it has no gluten.

Juicing vs. blending Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass Swirly
2 oranges
1 banana
½ cup fresh berries
2-inch round wheatgrass
1-2 cups ice cubes
Juice orange in a citris juicer.
Make the wheatgrass (in an auger type juicer made for wheatgrass)
Add to all the other ingredients in the blender and enjoy the swirl!
Why would you juice the wheatgrass first and not just blend it in with the smoothie? Wouldn't this save time and reap similar, if not the same, benefit?

I sprout it in an automatic sprouter, no soil required. I honestly love how it tastes and crave it if I don't drink it regularly. To me it tastes very vegetal, almost like matcha or something, but better. lol it kind of tastes like grass I suppose, but I quite enjoy the taste and energy acquired afterwards!

No matter how you make it --in the blender or juicing it, you cannot eat the pulp. therefore putting the wheatgrass juice in the blender with other things doesn't work, unless you want to squeeze out ALL the pulp from the other things.
The banana in the smoothie etc would thicken it too much to be able to strain it.
Think of cutting your hair and throwing it into the blender --that's what wheatgrass pulp is like! LOL

I've never had wheat grass juice but often as children we would find a good looking piece of grass (rye or couch) and suck the juice and soft tissue from the bottom of the stem.

That is not true, I put all the WG in my smoothie and drink it and nothing bad has happened to me :) I used to think the same thing, so I juiced my WG fully before adding it to smoothies. But with a Vita Mix there IS NO PULP, lol its just juice. You have to add some water and fruits and stuff to make a smoothie, granted, but if you just add water and wheatgrass to the Vita Mix there will be no pulp left to strain, it liquifies everything. This is one of the main reasons I bought a Vita Mix, because I got tired of juicing my wheatgrass all the time.

I do believe you! But to get any real amount of juice requires a good mount of wheatgrass. You only get about an ounce of juice from a GOOD SIZE tightly compacted handful of grass.
I believe that there are very few people who would find even one good-sized handful in a drink to be palatable. And it is indigestible...But that is not to say that a little bit of indigestible fiber is bad for you.
Anybody else throw the wheatgrass into your smoothies in any fair amount? Just curious.
