    Default 10,000 step challenge

    Hi

I recently read that increasing your activity level by taking 10,000 steps a day is very healthy and promotes weight loss. I got myself a little pedometer and have decided to try to get in 10,000 steps a day. Anyone else up for the challenge? Right now it is almost 11:00 and I am up to 7000 steps ( I took a walk this morning) This little pedometer is very addicitve. I find myself walking in place while preparing food in the kitchen to get extra steps in. I think I might make it today!
I'd love to hear from anyone else who wants to take the 10,000 steps a day challenge.

    Default Pedo

    Hi mamato
I have a pedometer, too. I'll join you in the 10,000 steps challenge starting tomorrow. I think I will add this to my 30-day challenge journal, too. Thanks for the idea!

I've read this website! I actually went out and bought a pedometer to do this, but have misplaced it when I moved...in a box somewhere. If I ever get
organized and find it, I will join you.

    Default 10,000 Step Challenge

I would like to join you in the 10,000 Step Challenge, too. Walking in place to get more steps in is a great idea - hadn't thought of that one. Doing a challenge will help keep me accountable.

I've heard of this before as well. I'd like to join you, but I don't have a pedometer. Off to search ebay!

I have found that I easily make the 10,000 step challenge if I walk four miles each day. So, if you don't get a ped. for awhile this would be a good gauge to help you get in all of the steps.
My heart is singing for joy this morning! A miracle has happened! The light of understanding has shone upon my little pupil's mind, and behold, all things are changed!

I would LOVE to join this. I don't have a pedometer, though. I'll have to check with my aunt what kind she has.

    Default I made it!

    Hey all!

I am so glad to see others up for the challenge. I made my goal today and I am so happy. As of right now I have over 13,000 steps! Yippee!!
Lodestar is right about 4 miles would be 10,000 steps. My walk this morning was 2 1/2 miles and I guess I roamed another 2 1/2 miles and then some around the house today. Pretty neat!
So one day down. I am hoping that this challenge will motivate me to get out of bed tomorrow and go walking again! It is so hard to get up early and exercise.
    Talk to you all later!
    :)

I don't know anything about pedometers. What are some of the best brands, styles? Do I need one that only counts steps or does it need more detail? Just wondering what kinds you guys have.

    Wink

I have a couple that I had gotten from McDonald's "adult happy meals", they used to give them as the toy/prize! Cute idea, and it really works quite well. I don't know if they still do it, nor if they have the meals, it consisted of a premium salad of choice, and a bottle of Dasani water.

Walmart carries them anywhere from $3.87-$8.00

HSN used to sell one that actually talked, and I think played music, it was a bit more pricey, but definitely interesting...I think they still sell it, if you look in their health products section.

The ones that actually count the steps, versus mileage, I personally like better, as it is fun to see how many actual steps you have taken, which all of the above ones I stated do. HTH! Blessings....

Can anyone tell me how the pedometer actualy works and is there radio waves and subsequent electro magnetic radiation involved. If I am going to go around all day with this attached to me I want to know that it is not doing me harm.
I love the idea and it is just what I need. If I have a definate target I tend to reach for it but so far I just have vague plans to exercise and I never do it.

    Sport -

The pedometer I have works by the movement of your body. For instance when you pick your leg up and then put it down it counts it as one step so it is by motion. I can hold the thing in my hand and shake it up and down and it counts out a bunch of steps. I don't think there is any electirc magentic radiation or anything like that. I mean it doesn't seem like there would be, it is just measuring my steps acording to my movement.
    Hope this helps.
By the way putting this here helped me get up and out of bed and out walking this morning. I wanted so much to just stay in bed and sleep some more but I remembered that I had to hit my 10,000 steps so I got up and went for my walk.
I got my pedometer on ebay.
