Default I think we all have a relative like this

    Hi Everyone,

I'd love to read your thoughts on this......

A very close relative has a perscription drug cabinet full of stuff. I couldn't believe the things he is taking. A pill for this, a pill for that. This helps your heart, this helps your diabetes, this helps your blood pressure. It just goes on and on.

By mixing all these things, it can't be healthy, obviously. Why do doctors push more meds and not a lifestyle of getting off the medicine and FLUSHING this junk out? Is it really all about the drug companies?

I'm a practical guy, so I understand there are times people need medicine, but it just seems everyone over 55 is pumped up on these pill cocktails.

    Peace,
    M.B.

I agree with you and I do have many relatives like this. I get angry when doctors don't teach people about their health but just pass out pills. I've been asking my doctors for 10 years to help me. They kept giving me anti-anxiety, anti-depressants, etc. I kept saying I was chemically altered from being so sick and how they "healed" me. They did save my life. No one listened. I have fired many doctors. I finally found and M.D. / D. O. and he is wonderful. I told him my story and he said, "you're right. How can you not be altered after what you went thru and all the antibiotics, plus they never really allowed you time to recover (meaning I was sent back to work too soon.)" He said I'd been misdiagnosed for 10 years! He's helping me now and raw is helping me now.

Yes, it’s about the drug companies!
Do you know how much the drug companies make?? Why would they want you to find alternative treatments, they would be out of business if they did.
They are not in the business of making people well, they are in the business of selling drugs.

I had a women who came here for a retreat in November. We got to be very good friends, she has stayed raw and we have continued to talk. Well, she works for a pharmaceutical company. She is trying to switch jobs, actually going to school to be a naturopath, but she makes a lot of money, just bought a house, cannot quits, you know the drill....
Anyway, she tells me these stories that are unbelievable!!
She told me about this other rep that she was working with. They both went tin to see a doctor one day and his associates. As the other rep was talking to this one doctor about a new kind of asthma drug the doctor got all excited and said, "hey, my good friend is the high school football coach of the high school here. I’ve talked to him about getting all the kids on the team on this as a preventative measure".
I flipped out. I knew she wasn’t lying. She was flipping out also. But i really couldn’t believe that this would be the case.
She told me that was nothing. That i wouldn’t believe the stuff that goes on.
    Nice hu?

I work in a hospital as a nurse. You have NO idea! Its unreal the way medication is just given out and pushed on people for the simplest of things. There are times when just cutting out a certain food or performing an exercise would help but because people don’t know any better they listen to their doctors and take what they say as the word of god.

I work with some good doctors who are trying to make a difference and really want to help people but there are a LOT who are not good and looking out for their own well being (or bank account rather) and then the majority just don’t know any better. It’s a really sad state and one that i hope will change as the world becomes more educated about raw foods, health and healing through natural living.

My mother in law is the same way!

She is on at least 20 different meds for various things. I don’t know how she even functions in her daily life.

I always think that, that taking that many things together cannot be safe but her doctors just keep giving her more and more and changing them around occasionally.

I've tried to talk to her about what I am doing for my health and to lose weight and get well but she thinks Im crazy.

I work in a chiropractor's office, and you wouldn't believe, well, I guess you would, how many drugs people are on, even in their forties. As soon as you mention changing their diet, they immediately say something like, "Oh that would never work for me." The odd thing is, is that we explain to them that if they ate better they wouldn't need to see us so often, but this seems to make no impact at all, until they get so sick they can't function at all.

I was telling a woman about fresh tomato sauce today, and she said I must be made out of money, because of the price of tomatoes. This from a woman who works full time, and has a husband who works full time. I work part-time, and get social security disability as well, and support a household by myself. I just replied, "Well, I guess they're cheaper than going to the doctor, and she did agree with that.

Strange world, and kind of backwards, isn't it!

I don't have any problems spending my money on natural, wholesome, organic, raw foods! I don't even look at the prices. I look at the produce. What looks good to me. I grab it and eat it! If I ever slip from raw my husband notices it right away. My friends notice it, too. I wish he'd take to noticing himself. He has high blood pressure, a strong family history of it and cholesterol and heart issues.......he sees my success but continues to smoke and drink! He's cut back due to tight finances but why not to save himself and be around for his family. I want to just smack him. He had a physical for a new job and his blood pressure is high again despite medication. He said, "guess I need to see the doctor. He'll probably increase my medicine." HEY BUDDY! STOP DRINKING STOP SMOKING AND EAT A SALAD!! He is eating better. I pack him lunch daily. I know he eats well and is better off than the way we used to eat plus all the bad stuff he does to himself.

OMG!! I have a LOT of relatives like this. One of the things (besides my own health, of course) that drives me to do this raw thing, learn as much as I can and eventually become some kind of Dietician or Nutrional Consultant or something is because of my family members. I hate hearing about my grandmother being hospitalized almost every couple of months or this relative having some kind of surgery, etc.

Disease runs in my family because the eating habits run in the family. Everything from diabetes to heart problems to high blood pressure...I HAVE to make the cycle end with myself and my children!

Sad part is, many people don't want to hear what you have to say and definitely don't want to change their eating. But I can say that my mother and sister-in-law (one of the 4 of them) are taking an interest. Not in eating raw, but at least minimizing or cutting out meat and dairy somewhat.

They sometimes call us too extreme or fanatical for the changes we've made...but they're also noticing the differences in us and how good we look! Maybe some day it'll all register.

i think one of the hardest things is watching those we love eat the SAD food and take drugs..first my mum had cancer and she was so ill and they completely trusted the doctores..woudlnt consider anything else..
my parner has illnesses and is allergic to dairy and still eats complete crap..has eating disorders i guess so i dont want to push her - yet its so hard seeing her tired and ill knowing some better eating would help and it doesnt have to be this way..ooh i feel better for saying that.

In Alissa's book, Chapter 10 titled Simple Vs. Radical (or: Sanity vs. insanity)

She says, "Eating fruits and vegetables is radical? But eating the inside of a cow or chewing the flesh off of the bones of chickens isn't radical???"

"When I tell people they can heal themselves on this diet, and they say:"well, that seems a little intense'I don't think I can do that", I am simply blown away."

"Medicating yourself and being cut open isn't intense? They can go through that but they can't start eating better?"

"What's intense is the way people are living their lives now! "Enjoying" a regular diet of animal products, sugar, coffee, alcohol, fast food, recreational and prescription drugs, artificial additives, cigarettes, household toxins, and little or no exercise...that's pretty intense to me!"

These words really spoke to me and told me to get off my lazy butt, stop whining and complaining about everything AND CHANGE WHAT I'M DOING!

P.S. Rawkinlocs: Love the new picture!

Yes, that’s my favorite - that really made me think about when people tell me this diet is radical or intense. I always think about that... "Medicating yourself and being cut open isn't intense?"
    Love it! Says it all!

    Smile Thanks for the feedback

    Hi Everyone,

I'm sad to see we all have friends and relatives in the same boat. Your comments are great. Keep up the good work. No one seems to get it. Eat from what the earth gives you. It goes back to the start of mankind.

This has become my number 1 site for raw foods. I used to post on the "other site" but no more. I feel very comfortable here and everyone seems mature and straight forward.

    Peace,

    Monkeyboy

Me thinks you guys were talking about me about 2 months ago. Pills for diabetes, pills for hypertension, pills for high choles, synthroid, sleeping pills, a booster to make it work better, anti-depressant, and some other stuff. Now, I have eliminated the sleeping pills and the booster and I go to sleep very early and sleep well - Could it be my new way of life -raw, and my exercise ummm - I know so.

As I continue on this journey, I pray that my walk will encourage others to do so as well. People are already noticing the change.
