    Default carrot juice

How much carrot juice is it okay to drink each day? Some people say it can cause damage to the liver? Is that true? I love it so much, and it's such an easy and delicious way to get tons of vitamins and minerals. I try not to overdo it, but I could easily drink 3 cups a day. Is that too much?

I don't think three cups a day is anything to be concerned about. A bit of variety would be good though. My fav juice is 1 pineapple, 6 apples and pound bag of carrots. So good :)

Kidney damage you mention is a result of vitamin A overdosing in very rare cases, but at 3 cups a day I wouldn't sweat it at all.

    Thanks so much everyone!

MysticTree I do drink other juices too, usually 1.5-2L a day. But I really love carrot juice and one cup just isn't enough for me. Now I can keep drinking with no concerns :)

Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin that can be obtained from animals and plants. The potentially harmful one is the retinol form of vitamin A of animal origin like liver, eggs, butter, and vitamin supplements. Vitamin A from plants is in the carotnoid forms such as beta carotene does not have the same toxic effect in excess if plants are your major source of it. Though the excess carotene may deposit in the body fat lead to yellow/orange coloring of the skin. This is a sign your liver has reached capacity of vitamin A and cannot uptake anymore so you should cut back on vitamin A sources in your diet, especially retinol forms since your liver can no longer process them.
