@ Renee - I thought I had more grains in my pantry... sheesh. I don't have wheat OR rye berries and I can't get to the co-op until Thursday. But I really want to try this now! So I looked around and saw that you can basically use almost any grain. Over at Rawmazing she says quinoa works well. But I know how experienced you are so thought I'd ask for your vote:

Okay, which do you think: quinoa or buckwheat?

I will definitely do it again when I get the wheat berries (we always have these on hand - I can't believe we're out) b/c I want to make the Grezzo cheese as per the recipe. I don't have any macadamia nuts but can get them - is it better to add in the macs with the cashews?

    Thanks!

@ QueenBee: Well....I've only used Wheat or Rye Berries. I would definitely not use Buckwheat because the water gets merky and slimy! Quinoa I'm not sure about. No worries! I'll go ahead and make it since I'm soaking the berries. Then, I'll wait for you to catch up and we'll make Grezzo Cheese together! Ooooohhh!!!! Fun!!!!!!!

I like the combo of the 2 nuts, but if all you have are 1 kind, I'd just use that. I have raw nuts in my freezer, so I'm good to go when you are!!!

    @ Renee:
Okay - I emailed my husband to see if he could make it over there today & pick up more wheat/rye berries. I am very anxious to get started!!!
I also have quinoa soaking b/c I figure why not? I'll try the quinoa rej. and see if it's any good. I saw several web posts with people swearing my quinoa rej so it's probably a matter of taste or something. Yesterday - too nervous to try any rejuvelac ... Today - making 2 types. Thank you for the inspiration, Renee - you rock!

    Cheers!

    Post Day 22 =)

    Today's food...

Breakfast: banana & walnut smoothie (banana, walnuts, cinnamon, dates)
Snack: pomegranate and blueberries w/cacao nibs
Lunch: green salad w/sprouts & cabbage & pepitas & homemade dressing (apple cider, nama shoyu, miso, garlic)
Snack: spirulina smoothie (my husband made this - it's not tasty due to too much spirulina but I drank it anyway) (pineapple, spirulina, flax seeds, dates)
Dinner: broccoli dill soup (spinach, broccoli, cashews, miso, dill, lime) - I have yet to eat this but it's made so I know I'm eatin' it!
Snack: handful of pistachios - haven't eaten this yet either, but if I write it down I'll only eat one handful instead of two, right? ;)

Also - It is COLD here today - snow is on the ground, temps well below freezing... I making myself an herbal 'tea' (ginger).

    Cheers!

Yesterday was a bit of a challenge because I was rushed all day due to appointments, etc., and then I had a dinner party at my house... I still managed to stay raw, though I missed a meal (lunch) and two of my snacks. Oh well. I will eat better today. =)

B: banana & chocolate smoothie (banana, dates, cacao, flax)
S: pineapple chunks sprinkled with coconut
S: minty-mango smoothie (mango, mint, romaine, coconut oil)
D: large mixed green and spinach salad with almonds and olive oil & sea salt

    Cheers!

    Default Rejuvelac

@ Renee: Okay, my wheat & rye berries are soaking! Does it really take 4-5 days for them to sprout? My quinoa sprouted already, but I know quinoa is a fast-sprouting grain... I will let you know when my rejuvelac is ready & we can make the cheese. =)

Also, I was going to do the brownies tomorrow but I had someone reschedule on me and I will not be home in time. You said you're going to archive it for those of us that want to do the brownies at almost the same time, right? I am looking forward to those brownies!!!

I'm gonna have to go get some fresh Berries cuz my berries should have sprouted by now. I may have oversoaked them because I had to work last night and forgot to drain them before I left. So, they're kinda sitting there saying.... "Why!!!! Why!!!!"

BTW, the Brownie Class isn't until Tuesday. So, you've got a few more days left to do that.

I have Whole Food jealousy.... the nearest one to me is an hour away. Sigh.
So far so good - no tails yet on the wheat/rye. My quinoa stuff is already in the gallon container turning into rejuvelac. How on earth do you know when it's become rejuvelac - does it just happen in 24 hours? It seems way too easy.... =)

PS - That spanish barley looks so good.... mmmm. The avocado-chocolate pudding was interesting. The recipe in RFFE wasn't doing it for me, so doctored it up adding more cacao, dates & coconut. Then it was tasty. But straight as-is from RFFE left me with a funky avocado aftertaste. I will definitely look at a recipe with thai coconut. Coconut should be my middle name ... yum.

Hey Queeny, make sure you're rinsing your berries several times a day. Don't let them dry out. I'm sure you know to keep them on the counter, NOT the frig, right? I usually see something of a sprout the 2nd day.

OOOHHH, they're building a brand new Whole Foods here in Katy that will open in the 30th!!!! I have to drive 20-30 minutes to go to one in Houston right now. So, I'm excited about the new one! I may even christen it with a couple of raw demos!

Yea, I wasn't feeling the Avo-Pudding either. Try this one:

    STRAWBERRY COCONUT PUDDING

    2 Cups fresh Strawberries
    1 Cup Thai Coconut Flesh
    2 TBSP Raw Agave
    1/8 tsp Sea Salt

Be sure to Vita-Mix or high speed blender this one... Makes it SUPER smooth!!!!
