cataract help needed
I am in my early 70's and very healthy although I am not 100% raw I juice veggies daily and eat mostly raw with lots of organic fruits and veggies and when I cook its vegetarian. So was very disappointed to find I have a cataract that needs removing before it hardens. I am of course terrified of something going wrong, has anyone here had successful cataract surgery? have done alot of research and cannot find any proof that there is anything to reverse a cataract. ann
Not sure about actually reversing cataracts, but I do know that vitamin C is highly specific for this condition, in so much as it is claimed to slow it's progress. I would anticipate astaxanthin and alpha lipoic acid offering similar benefits but I must caution against the use of alpha lipoic acid as it is actually a potentially dangerous substance which, in spite of its widespread availability and widespread use, should only be used in certain highly-specific circumstances and even then, only according to a highly specific, precisely-structured, dosing protocol.
I can back this up, but suffice to say, I would very strongly suggest anyone not to use ALA as a supplement, even for liver support or eye support, 2 circumstances under which it is all too commonly recommended, by laypeople and by practitioners who do not understand ALA's attendant risks.
Certainly consider looking into the C and astaxanthin, as potential options, though (remember to always check with your doctor before introducing any supplements - you know the routine).
In a person with cataracts, it is worth investigating whether or not there may be some toxin present within the person's body which is capable of being highly pro-oxidative to bodily tissues. This potential factor is rarely, if ever, considered by practitioners of conventional medicine, other than for patients who are known, for example, to be smokers.
Moving on, I vaguely recall Dr William Wong discussing the use of certain systemic enzymes, (in an eye-drop form, I think) having been developed by an eastern European practitioner for the purposes of healing certain degenerative eye conditions - possibly cataracts but my memory is hazy on this. If you want to listen to this particular discussion, which I heard about 5-6 yrs ago, it's an interview used by the enzyme company 'Vitalzym' as a promotional item for their enzyme products. However, do please note that with specific regard to eyes, Wong was not discussing the Vitalzym product. As I am typing this, I have just managed to find this discussion online (it only ever used to be available on a promotional CD): http://www.naturopath4you.com/mp3s/V...m Wong web.MP3
However, I don't know if the relevant audience discussion part of the presentation has been retained in the online version, so you may still need to obtain the CD, after all.
It is worth noting that TCM is very emphatic about there being a link between eye health and liver health. This is actually interesting from the point of view that carrot juice is known to be healing (and supportive) of both the liver and the eyes.
In Norman Walker's book on fruit & vegetable juicing, he relates a story of a woman who experienced quite incredible improvement in her vision after prolonged daily consumption of endive juice.
Sorry I can't be more specific with regard to cataracts but perhaps one or more of the above pointers might be of some use to you, if only as a seed for more research.
