Kitchen Gadgets for Christmas?
I love kitchen gadgets and am so tickled to get these two gifts today. I used the corn stripper and I think it'll take a little bit more practice and this Borner julienne shredder. Should be fun!
Did anyone have a new gadget under the tree?

Oxo Good Grips Corn Stripper
Borner Julienne Shredder with Bowl

I got an immersion blender!

I can't wait to try it.
Happy New Year everyone!

I changed the title for ya Deb.
I didn't get anything kitchen related for Yule. That corn stripper looks handy, let us know how it works for ya. Does it help the corn NOT spray across the room LOL

Hi laughalways ~ What a great gift! I see yours even came with a blending cup - nice :)
Thanks Aleesha for changing the title, I appreciate that. I guess in all my excitement my fingers typed faster than my thoughts. :) I used the corn stripper last night (corn salsa!) and yes, it kept the kernels pretty much in the stripper and juice didn't go everywhere! ;) Corn is pretty much a mess to get off the cob, isn't it?

Hi Deb...pretty cool gadgets you have....where do you get corn this time of year? I'm jealous and happy for you!! :-) I am going to make some salsa later but I'll use frozen:-( Enjoy playing with your new gifts!

Hi laughalways ~ Our Costco carries fresh sweetcorn. It's not organic though. But, they do carry organic frozen, which is great. I like it that they're getting in more & more organics all the time. They just started carrying organic figs - so tasty!
I think we'll both enjoy our new gifts!

I got a stainless steel hanging fruit baskets set from my mother in law to free up the counters and closets from my collection of overflowing fruit bowls. I need to buy a studier hook to hang it from though as its got some weight in it already that is making me nervous. I also got a 6 pack of 18oz led free glass bottles with bpa free screw caps for refrigerating & transporting raw juice, a ceramic blade peeler, and a glass adjustable temp electric tea kettle from my dad.
I gave my wife a magnetic bamboo block knife holder and three forged Wusthof Ikon chef knives to replace the stamped Gourmet versions I got her for our first christmas while we were dating. I didn't know much about knives back then and was on a tighter budget. Never the less she had used them daily to great effect in the eight years since with minimal injuries. These new ones are downright scary to have to watch her wield.

And the winner is...!! You both gadgeted OUT this Christmas ~ I love it! I bet those fruit baskets will be great. Are they a mesh, or solid? The glass bottles sound really interesting. I'm using small old Snapple jars :)
I'm curious about the magnetic block knife holder? What's magnetic? Is it one of those strips that mount on the wall. I didn't think so cuz you said block...
Thanks for sharing Supa! (We used to go through St. Louis when we lived in central IL to my in-laws outside of Spgfl, MO ~)

Always wanted a mortar and pestle and my wife got me a large 8" natural granite one for Christmas. That plus we finally got some Wusthof knives as well, along with a 7 cup Cuisinart food processor. All ready for my attempt at some healthy eating!

They are a round exteriors with a mesh forming a square bottom. My mother in law left the sticker on it so I saw it was $10 from bed, bath, and beyond. Though I didn't see it on their website, I found a very similar looking one on Amazon with mixed reviews about chain breaking. *cross my fingers

Well I guess it is really a wood strip with the magnet is embedded inside so it wont scuff the knives. I did see a very cool free standing wood knife block with magnets embedded in its sides at the store as well, but it was a bit more then I had planned to spend.

Deb, good to hear about the corn remover thingy LOL Whole Foods has corn as well (at least here they do) - organic on the cob. Obviously not local (since I'm Canada and it's not warm anywhere in Canada at the moment LOL)
I have really great fruit baskets. I got them at Costco. They sit on that appliance that heats things LOL which I have covered with an Ikea desktop so that it's counter-top rather than wasted space.
I used to use the ones like you got though and I hung them with a hanging basket hook from Home Depot. It held up nicely for years!

Wow thadius - you are going to do some serious mortar and pestlin' with that! I bet it's beautiful. I bet you'll love your knives and your Cuisinart! I use my food processor almost as much as I do the blender. :)
Supa ~ I like it that the fruit baskets will have good air flow -and- like you said, gets them off the counter. I have very limited counter space. I have never seen anything like your bamboo magnetic knife block. Not only is it beautiful, it's just about the coolest thing I've seen for knives.
Aleesha ~ I think I know which fruit baskets you're talking about. It took me a minute to know what you were talking about when you said they were sitting on the appliance thing that heats up - haha! Our closest Whole Foods is 4+ hours away in Seattle. I've never seen organic corn on the cob here except at the Farmer's Market. I'd love to have a WF or Trader Joe's nearby - but I'm not complaining. All in all, we do really well with what we do have. :)

Hi Supa~ Would you please tell me how you got the pictures in your post? I tried to post pics in mine from online, but could not figure it out....
-
I copy the picture location by right clicking on it on another website then do add picture in posting tools here and choose from URL instead of from computer and paste the URL and leave the store local box checked. Then click the add inline button to insert it in the post.

Thank you for your kind explanation Supa. I am challeneged on such things. I clicked on the 'Image' button (little square with a tree in it), selected the tab 'from URL'. Went to Amazon, found the corn stripper listing, copied the URL, pasted it in the 'Insert Image' box here and it said, 'Invalid URL'. If you're a patient person, I'd really love to know how to do this...
