Jar of good things . . .
This January, why not start the year with an empty jar and fill it with notes about good things that happen. Then, on New Years Eve, empty it and see what awesome stuff happened that year. Good way to keep things in perspective! (Found on FB)

There is no real need to wait until January. You could start this today :)

All the best!

I absolutely looooooooooooooove this idea. My mother and I are starting our jars today. My very first good thing note, is receiving this amazing, wonderful, brilliant, Jar idea from you MysticTree. I am so very excited!
Any suggestion on what I should name my Jar, that is now sitting on my fire place mantel.
Also, I will and have included the date and time on my notes.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you MysticTree.

I was thinking it could be your Pigeon.... since your name is Robin! LOL...get it!!! You know, kinda like tieing the note to his "leg" so to speak!!!! LOL!!!!
I know, pretty bad, right!!!! Ok, maybe that's a little hokey, huh!!!!

I heard a similar idea about writing for two minutes every morning for 21 days of all the good things you could remember happening in your past.
Interesting; I've heard from multiple people that it takes 21 consecutive days of doing something for it to become a habit, generally speaking.

Not true, actually. People can turn something into a habit in a hot minute ~ or, break a habit just as quickly. I've see people eating one way for YEARS, then in a change of mind, begin eating a different way. It's more about awareness (or lack of) than it is about time.

You are very welcome. It seemed like too good an idea not to share :)

That is a great idea! I might do that.

I like the jar idea better I think.
To merge the two I would do this:
There is a lot of benefit to the loop that good words take when they are written down by hand, seeing what you wrote, speaking it aloud, and then hearing it. It impresses it on your heart. It is as well, a good memorization tool. As thoughts or words are cycled through that loop it has a powerful positive effect on the body, mind, heart, and soul.

l bet you have to have a BIG jar to keep all the good things that happen for you in. Also you are right about the 21 days/ habit thing. If only it were that easy/simple :)
-
I keep a running blessing list on my phone. I sometimes need to reflect on the good things. This is a great idea!!!! :)
-
A better way to put it is that repeating something for 21 days is a good way to establish a new habit. Its not the only way to establish one but it is one way. Dont discount it because its concept was simply stated a little differently than it actually applies.

I think it's a habit while it's a habit.
