Default good4u 6 tray dehydrator question

    hello,

Im planning to buy the good4u 6 tray dehydrator and it comes with 2 non stick sheets and 2 mesh. Should i look at ordering more when i purchase this. I am new to dehydrating so it will take me some time to learn it. The non stick trays are reusable correct? So if i wanted to fill up all 6 trays at a time then i would need 6 sheets? I plan to start with dehydrating fruit and i also have alissa's latest book and alot of the recipes require a dehydrator. I also own a vitamix 5200 and manual juicer. Does $150 sound like a good price for a 6 tray black with 2 non stick sheets and 2 mesh and free shipping.

    thanks

    Josh

I don't really know - depends how big the trays are - but if it is affordable for you, you have space for it and it helps you see if a top-notch dehydrator is necessary.

i had a Good4You dehydrator. it was nice. excalibur was more sturdy (cracked some trays in Good4U) and better (and i liked that it had a "door" too)

i'd get more teflex sheets!!! so much more productive that way :)

Hi Josh ~ I don't know if you're open to ordering from ebay, but we were just discussing this a bit in another thread on Excaliburs. There are some new units for less than $150 with free shipping on ebay (9 tray Excaliburs).

we get so ripped off on excaliburs and vitamixes in the UK. The prices are so much more than it seems fair that they should be!

Yes Josh, you will need more non-stick sheets. It only comes with 2 mesh? That makes no sense! You NEED the mesh (and the non-stick.) I almost always start my drying on the non-stick and then go to mesh. With dryer fruit/veggies you may not need the sheets.

Is there a door on the G4U? The problem I've heard with it is, if there's no door and you need to remove a tray to put something with depth in it, you can't do it.

I've got a 9-tray Excalibur with timer. I can dry more at one time. Problem with a 6-tray w/out a door... you can do only very thin produce/crackers, etc. With a door, you can do as much as a 6-tray PLUS remove trays for larger things like loaves/patties, etc.

hey Deb, thanks for letting me know. Do you happen to have a link for this? I use ebay quite often if the deals are good.

Update-Was checking ebay and didnt find nothing with a 9 tray for $150. More like $250.

Oh, I'm so sorry Josh. You're right. I found some with free shipping for $220, not $150 - my mistake. I believe the units for $220 do not have a timer, just pointing that out.

I would definitely recommend the 9 tray Excalibur. Like Revell, I also have 9 non-stick sheets. I didn't order 9 at the beginning and I regretted it. I saw the non-stick sheets on ebay too. The thread I was talking about is here.

My Good4U is okay but I wish I'd gotten a smaller Excalibur with a timer instead. Of course, I don't love most dehydrated foods anyway (except for kale chips!)
