Breast Milk Replacement
Does anyone have a recipe for a breast milk replacement for babies? Do you just give the baby carrot and greens juice?

I am going to PM you.
How old is the baby?

Ok, I'll pm you. I went to email you and it bounced.
I am no expert, but do have some books that are raw focused that will help.

Please don't give a newborn carrot or wheat grass juice. A newborn baby needs the properties in milk. If you can't give your own milk, or someone else's, then goat or cow's milk formulaes are your second best bet. There are nutients and proteins that are essential to a human baby's growth and development.

Goats Milk
For my daughter I supplimented my breast milk with goats milk as at the time I was not producing enough and it worked out VERY well. I personally would never dream of giving an infant formula or cows milk. If you have any queries feel free to PM me.
The Goats milk I used was called Nanny, made in New Zealand which was from organic and free range goats. Just make sure to check your source. You may be able to find a farm locally who can sell it to you - just freeze it. I also did this.
Also the hospital had a breast milk bank where mothers could donate thier extra milk if they were high producers, you may consider getting milk that way also.
Keep in mind this was in the UK so it may not be done here.
Cheers,
EPPP

Yes, I agree with the rest of the crowd. From the naturopathic and natural hygiene textbooks, mix 1/2 carrot juice and 1/2 goat's milk (raw) for an older infant or 1/3 carrot juice, 1/3 goat's milk, and 1/3 water for a younger infant. I would do this under the supervision of a naturopath or natural hygiene practitioner.

I weaned my first on raw goats milk. I supplemented my second and third with cow's milk formulas out of necessity. It's not the end of the world, sometimes it is a necessity if breast milk isn't availble. Not everyone can afford a wet nurse or buying from a milk bank unfortunately.
I would personally use that over wheat grass or carrot juice for a newborn. I'm sure an older baby might use diluted wheat grass or carrot juice supplementally, but not for the sole nutrition.
That is my educated opinion. I encourage anyone to search out information on the alternatives, and to make educated decisions about the nutritional needs of their growing infants.

Oh no! Please don't ever give a baby cow's milk! I believe cow's milk formula was responsible for my years of digestive distress! I was one of those kids you would never want to be around.. always screaming in pain! If they had just switched to rice milk formula.. hehe

I agree, raw goats milk is optimal if mom can't breast feed.
Also agree about no to cow's milk formula. There are far too many options now besides just cow's formula.
I am sure she is researching all this out and will make the best decision for her baby!
I think it's great that she's here asking for advise!

There are specific nutrients only available in mother's and mammal's milk which a baby under 2 requires and can get. After 2 it loses the ability to use this milk, and shouldn't drink anything other than its momma's milk, or a vegetarian alternative. Whether it be a goat, cow, water buffalo or sheep it might be an alternative if the mother cannot produce for baby.
I don't know if these nutrients can be acquired through vegetation for a baby. Because the baby really requires its mother's or human milk, so that is why a mammal is going to be the next best thing. If there is an allergy present, than obviously you have to use alternate routes.
This is a very difficult decision and I hope the mother looks into all avenues based on some thorough nutritional research.
This is not against raw food in general - because I firmly believe we as humans after 2 shouldn't be using animal milk - but supportive of a baby's nutritional needs.

Hi Helen,
Yes, I agree raw goat's milk is best. I was raised on it and when they switched me over to cows milk I became filled with muscus, Oh yes I remember that.
Also when we had foster children we gave one of the babies goat's milk when he was underweight and could not keep down the canned soymilk they wanted us to give him. He kept the goat's milk down and did well on it.
But get all the information you can because with us we were singled out by our State Officials for giving our children Organic food and goat's milk.
Sounds stupid but anything out of the norm draws the attention of Child Protective Services so I would get all my ducks in order and protect yourself.
Being right in the middle of the meat and dairy industry it's seen as odd not to eat meat and not to drink cow's milk or that nasty soy formula laced with chemicals and sugar that they want you to push down babies throats.
Take care Helen.
Ann
