Juicing with a Vita Mix?
Hello everyone. I have had a vitamix for many years and I love it. However I want to try juicing but I don't want to spend $500 on a good juicer (and if I'm gonna buy one at all, I'm only going to spend that much for a really good one, I won't settle for one that won't work as well cause then I'll end up not using it).
Has anyone tried "juicing" with the vitamix? I'm thinking to blend the things into a smoothie and then strain. But I'm not sure it will do the job right. And to blend so much food to get enough juice might take too long but... does anyone have experience doing this who can offer insight?

That's the only way I juice anymore!

ive been thru about 7 juicers from champion to omega and not content with any of them
placing water and produce in blender then straining out pulp is a good way with alot of types produce . except for me soft stuff like tomatoes as the blending action whips all kinds of air into them and lessens / changes taste

Does this work for wheatgrass?

works great for wheat grass . just cut the grass into like 1" bits or itll wrap around blade and stop it from turning . every juicer ive had , even my new omega 8006 slow turning thats supposed to be great 4 wheat grass , i still use blender method for grass because juicers dont get much juice out of it . blender method gets more to me . plus i take a bunch of blended up grass pulp outta strainer and chew on it to clean teeth

Thanks a lot! I want to start drinking wheatgrass but didn't want to buy a separate device for it. And I didn't know it could be used to clean teeth either.Since I will be blending it, what else can be combined with it? Never really heard of wheatgrass smoothies.

I make many of the juices in my vitamix and just strain it. Its my preferred way over any juicer. Just my opinion.
example: carrot juice (4 to 5), 1 cup water, 2 strain it and you get about 16 oz of juice. Add 2 tbsp of lemon juice after you strain it. There is no way that i would ever get that with my breville $250 juicer. I would of had to use 3 to 4 times the carrots.
example1: 4 carrots, 1 red beet, 1/2 cucumber, 1 green apple, 1 1/4 cup water. Blend for 50 seconds and strain. This makes 20 oz of juice. If i want it cold then i just blend a few ice cubes with any of my drinks.
example2: 1 red beet, 1" ginger root with skin removed, 1 green apple, 1 cup water. Blend and strain.
example3: 1 cup spinach, 4 celery stalks, 1 apple, 1 kale leaf, 1/2 cucumber, 1/2 cup water, ice. blend and strain.

So why is this not more popular? I see so many people blog about having both juicer and blender. Are they concerned that blender destroys nutrients because of some theories about high rpm being bad for juice?Sounds like blender gives better yield, is easier to use and cleanup, and of course cheaper than 2 appliances.

Here is my thing with juicers. I had a $250 breville and it was hard to clean and so much dump in the container. When i use to juice apples i would see the skin in the overflow. I did some research and the skin is the best part to eat. Blender doesn't kill as I only blend less than 60 seconds for all my drinks and really watch from over blending or getting heat. I add ice cubes to most drinks. If you cut up the fruit/veg good enough then vitamix doesn't need to work so hard. My vitamix has one thing to clean and thats the container with lid. My juicer had many pieces to clean. Im sure the $500-$1000 juicers are amazing though but I didnt want to spend that when vitamix can do it with straining.

i grow wheatgrass and i have a manual juicer that i bought from amazon for $50. I wouldnt even attempt to put it in my vitamix. I do know people that add it to smoothies and blend up but i feel the juice straight is much better.

It sounds like blender is enough for juicing, and add a manual wheatgrass juicer if one is serious about wheatgrass. Since I haven't even started growing it yet, that's something I will keep in mind.
