    Default raw oatmeal recipe?

hey I think someone posted that they had a raw oatmeal recipe that they fed their kids? jsut wondering how you do that? my son seems to be wanting some grains. I would like to be able to do this for him on an occasion definitely not every day though.

    Thanks for the help!

    Default raw porredge

I dont know if this will help. My kids cannot eat grains of any kind - including oats. So I give them my version:

2-4 apples (cored, peel 1/2 - or dont peel at all)
handfull of almond meal (not pulp)
    honey & cinnamon optional

Put 1/2 the apples in food processor (the unpeeled ones, so as to break up the skin), add almond or nut meal (not pulp)process again, then remainder of apples so that its chunky. Add a bit of honey and cinnamon if you like.

I also vary this by adding a mango or a pear to the apples. Try rainsins too. I sometimes add no almond meal at all. This moring I places fzn defrosted raspberries on top.

    all the best!

Mmm...that sounds good each'! I'll have to try that one day soon.

If you do not have the grain flaker to roll the oats, what I used to do was:

Soak the oat groats overnight. The next morning, drain and put into processor or blender along with water (start with 1/4 cup and work up a little at a time until desired consistency); dates (or other sweetener such as agave), cinnamon and a dash of sea salt. Blend until creamy or you can leave a little chunky if you like. Then (optional) add some raisins, chopped apples, bananas, etc. and pulse chop as to not blend those last ingredients too much. If you have some GOOD-tasting coconut oil (such as the Virgin De Coco that Alissa sells), add a little of that and you'll SWEAR the oatmeal/porridge has butter in it!

How creative to use almond pulp! I'm going to try that. Thanks.

That sounds great, Rawkinlocs! I bet it'd be good warmed up in the dehydrator too... I had read in your journal about you and your family enjoying oatmeal when you were transitioning to raw, and I was going to ask you how you made it! Thanks for sharing. :)

With babies the same age I just wanted to make sure you understood that I put ground up almonds in the porredge not almond pulp. I want ALL the goodness of the nuts not just the fiber! I buy it pre ground at Trader Joes - easy peasy, or I grind soaked almonds or I use almond butter too!

    All the best

    Red face raw oats yummy!!!

My kids never really liked cooked mushy oatmeal anyway. So I put the oats in the collander along with raisns and spray with hot water for about 30 seconds. It rinses off all of the mushy stuff. Then they put almond milk and honey on it.

Hey Jodi... neat idea. Would warmer water and a trip to the dehyrator work, too?

I put about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of steel cut oat in an oat flaker then put them in the vitamix with 1 or 2 bananas and enough water to get the texture we like.

Thats it. sometimes I add cinnamon.

    Another by Gabriel Cousens is:

    Apple Cinnamon Porridge

    3 cups soaked almonds
    1 apple
    1 Tablespoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon sea salt ( I used less)

Put it all in vitamix and blend. My kids liked this one a lot.
