Thread: Reuben Sandwich

    Default Reuben Sandwich

I just have to share how awesome Alissa's Reuben sandwich recipe is. That stuff is the best and could definitely become a comfort food. Even my children, who do not like avocadoes or sauerkraut were gobbling it down. They asked me if I would make it again tomorrow. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the review! I didn't know Alissa had a reuben recipe. (How did I ever miss a recipe that calls for sauerkraut?? Yum!)

I've been wondering about her Reuben recipe... What are you using for the sauerkraut? Can you buy raw, or are you making your own? Reubens used to be one of my favorites!

    Thanks for the sauerkraut linK!

A reuben is a SAD but decadent corned beef and sauerkraut sandwich with a thousand-island like dressing on rye bread. It's usually served warm, sometimes open-faced!!

I made my own. The recipe is from Eating Without Heating.

    Sauerkraut

Grate the following ingredients into a bowl:

    3 medium heads cabbage
    5 carrots
    8 bay leaves
    1 T. dill seed
    2 T. salt

Cover the mixture with a plate and something heavy like a container of water to keep the juice coming up. Don't let cabbage dry out on top. Yields 1 1/2 gallons.

I haven't had the time to make the rye bread, but the reuben sounded good so I put raw sauerkraut on top of sliced avocado. Sounded like a kind of gross combo, but it is amazingly good!
