I want to thank everyone who has participated in this RawFoodTalk.com forum. There have been some amazing exchanges here and so many words of wisdom spoken. But its time for me to close this board. I am moving on to new ventures and feel that its time for me to let this go. A forum of this size takes loads of money, time and energy. I have not been keeping up with the forum upgrades, the spam problems, etc…. which is resulting in many disgruntled emails and people calling the office daily. I’m sorry to disappoint the many of you who have spent your time and wonderful words of help and inspiration here. I hope that you have all benefited from this board and that it has helped you on your path to optimal health. I know many of you have made lasting friendships here as well. I will leave this board up for a month of so, so that you may copy what you need and any information you would like to save.
Thank you for being part of the RawFoodTalk.com community! It’s been a wonderful ride! I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for all of you and of course, you can keep up with my adventures through my blog, Facebook and twitter. I am continuing my certification trainings and there will be some exciting new classes, events and projects coming into fruition in the near future!
I have been 100% raw for the last 5 years and decided today I haven't check my pressure for a while so I got my kit out and it's very high. I'm blown away as I use to be on medication but when I went raw I was able to come off them. Now I don't know what to do I REALLY DON"T want to go back on medication. Any ideas I'm welling to do anything to stay off them.
Hi Patch ~ I've also been experiencing BP issues. Mine is called swinging blood pressure. It will go high and then swing back to normal. I've been raw vegan for about 4.5 years. But the last 8+ months I have been doing an intense full body detox and Dr. Robert Morse ND (he has a wonderful YouTube channel by the same name) is my Naturopath. It's diet and herbs. I know now that my BP is swinging as my kidneys and head's lymph is starting to break loose. It may be that a detox might help you. Fans of his have also started a Facebook page, you could take a read if you're interested.

I am hoping that since you have a history of high BP, you learned a lesson about not checking it on a regular basis. Staying off meds is great if you can, but some people would pay too high a price if they took that route. Sure hope the herbal treatments do the trick for you.
Proper hydration is important to maintaining good blood pressure. How's yours? You get dehydrated a little and your pressure increases to pump the more concentrated blood....this then can damage arteries.
I struggle with high blood pressure too, due to a lot of family life stress and genetics (I guess), since most of the people in my family are on bp meds.
I use hawthorn berries and it works really well for me. I also eat a lot of garlic. Garlic thins the blood some and the hawthorn berries relax the artery walls to allow the blood to flow through more easily.
Also, periodically through the day, I stop what I am doing (even if it means I have to go to the bathroom to get a bit of quiet) and take several deep breaths. I breath slowly in through my nose to the count of 8, hold it to the count of 8 and let it slowly out to the count of 8. It will lower your blood pressure as well.
Also, remember to try to breath deeply any time you can, just normally. Often when we are under stress, we take shallow breaths, which can increase anxiety, which can raise the blood pressure.
And don't forget exercise. Even brisk walking will help.
Thanks everyone for the great advice. I've started on Hawthorn Berries today, have sharpened up my diet added more green smoothies and cut down on all the nuts I was eating. Started exercise which had gone out the window and stopped stressing about that fact my blood pressure is up. I will take it again in a week and see what it's doing.
I've also heard that if your body is out of line that can affect the blood pressure too and I know mine is so another thing to look into. I'm certainly going to give it my best shot to try and get it back down but if I can't then I will return to the doctor.
Understand what you are saying my problem is I have what they call white coat syndrome so when ever I have to take it or the doctor I panic and it goes sky high. My doctor always says it's dangerous for me to visit her ( joking) as it goes up. So I have tended not to get to hooked on those numbers but I should have checked it sooner. Lesson learnt
Melons really are a abundant resource of potassium and magnesium, which helps with lowering the blood pressure level. The carotenoids present in the melon, avoid the hardening and narrowing of the walls of arteries and veins, thereby decreasing the likelihood of constricted blood circulation through them. Both, watermelon and muskmelon are good examples.
You can go to doctor, they can determine your treatment and they can give you a medicine on blood pressure and some advice on blood pressure. I think, doctor is the best way to achieve it.
Most people here are trying to avoid doctors and their toxic medications.
Have you tried meditation to deal with stress? It may help. Also having a pet can help reduce stress and lower blood pressure. My blood pressure used to be a lot higher until I cut out all salt, which means no processed foods at all. I realize you have been raw for quite some time, are you using any salt at all? I find that most raw recipes that use salt seem to use way too much.
For those who have not seen this information, I think this weighs heavily on the discussion. Mercury is a cause of high blood pressure and for those people who have mercury fillings, 50% of the fillings are mercury and are constantly being leached into the mouth. It seems almost foolish that so many health-conscious people are working their butts off to detox while they still have the source of poisoning right in their mouth.
