Under Eye Irritation/Puffiness/Redness....
For the last couple of weeks I have had A skin irritation happening under my eyes. They are red, puffy, itchy, generally not pretty and uncomfortable.
Iíve stopped using all of skin creams that I normally use in that area hoping to remedy the problem. I was using baby oil as a eye makeup remover. Once I realized it was causing enlarged pores and bumps under my eyes, I stopped using it. Now where there once was large bumps, is now puffy, red, itchy, irritated.
Could this be caused by using baby oil as an eye makeup remover over an extended period of time (years)? That my body is now suddenly reacting to all of the extra oil? I now know that it was probably a terrible idea to use baby oil at all.
Now, the area seems there are dry patches and when I add a moisturizer the area stings.
Iíve tried tea bags, cucumber, cold pressÖall to no avail.
Could anyone suggest a DIY or holistic remedy to reduce the irritation and puffiness?
My eyes have been bothering me in a similar fashion. It is hayfever season (seems to have hit early this year due to the extreme weather patterns) and what you mention is a small part of what it does to me. It hit me two weeks ago as well, and I am at about the same latitude as you location states. I try and rinse my eyes often with B&L eyewash. Because internal loads that tax the immune system worsen the pollen issues, I have to avoid all dairy and yeasts as well as a host of other food sensitivities. When the immune system is taxed due to internal loads, the pollens bother me worse. If you are detoxing due to recent dietary changes, seasonal allergies that only mildly or unnoticeably bothered you before could become worse. Just one possibility as I see it.
Have you tried a different oil? Maybe coconut, jojoba, or olive. Stay well hydrated so your body can flush the irritants. Cinnamon in equal parts with honey help my sinuses and lungs by increasing bloodflow to the mucosal tissue. Maybe that would help with your puffiness.
Hope you're doing better soon. Pay attention to when this clears up. If it persists until first frost or thereabouts or is alleviated when you step in to a well air conditioned environment, meaning chilled and hepa filtered, it could be related to seasonal allergies ("hayfever" for this time of year).
Oil based eye makeup removers (baby oil, as in your case) are very irritating to the sensitive skin around your eyes. See if your condition improves after you have stopped using them for a while. I generally gently "shampoo" mine off with soap and water.
In the interim, you may want to use cold tea (IE chamomile, black tea, etc) bag compresses to help reduce the swelling and irritation.
What you describe sounds pretty consistent with hay fever. To alleviate the irritable skin I'd echo the suggestions of chamomile tea bags. Its possible that the baby oil is the sole cause or it may have aggravated irritation due to hay fever or other allergies. The clogged pores and/or touching irritated skin may have caused a secondary skin infection. In either case I would suggest avoiding using baby oil and refrain from touching the affected skin. I have heard of Aveno/oatmeal treatments being effective for similar sounding cases.
I think that it also your eyes that's been stressed that cause the redness of the eye.
Use caution if you choose to apply chamomile teabags. Chamomile teabags may irritate if it is due to hayfever that you suffer this irritation. Chamomile is in the same as Ragweed which is one of the hayfever pollen producers-Family Asteraceae.
Hi there I think in your condition what you can try is wash your eyes and face with rose water it is known to be beneficial for eyes and face. And I don't think this is gonna have any side effects.
