good snack foods to supplement a raw diet
I try to eat really clean. I have mono fruit meals, and do green juices and home made v8 alot. That part is really simple.
Where I get confused is snack foods, when I'm on the go, in a hurry, or just looking to mix it up.
I have a few Items, and I'm wondering if these are ok in your eyes on a raw food diet.
1. Raisins. I'm actually interested in all the dried fruits with this one. Dates especially.
2. Nuts and seeds from regular grocery stores(it seems like alll the ones I can find are roasted). If I buy blue diamond almonds, are those the kind I can soak? or are they already cooked, and therefore ruined? Do I have to spend a lot more to get raw nuts to soak?
3. Pickles from the refrigerated section. You can get some at walmart that say "never heated" on the lid, but I think they have preservatives. Are the ones made with vinegar, or salt better? My local health food store has some that look healthy and raw, but I'm not sure?
4. kombucha. I don't know why I'm asking this one. I'm not giving up my kombucha. I'm going to start brewing my own soon.
5. "Raw" food bars. Larabars only have a couple ingredients and are delicious, and raw revolution bars claim to be totally raw, but i'm not sure because its fruit and its not refridgerated, and it doesn't have preservatives.

Blue Diamond almonds are roasted, so are not raw. Depending where you are in the world, you may or may not be able to get raw nuts locally. There are a lot of raw food companies, though, that sell them.
Bubbies sells raw pickles. I get mine at Whole Foods Market. I don't know of any other brand that sells raw pickles.
Larabars are good, but since they are no longer raw I don't eat them anymore. My favorite are Loveforce Energy Bars, especially the Chocolate Orange. They are a bit pricey, but I usually only eat 1/3 to 1/2 of one before I go workout at the gym so it works for me.
Where are you located? That would help us give you more accurate answers.
Bananas are a GREAT high carb, inexpensive and easy snack that can be taken anywhere!

Bubbies. That's the pickles they have at my local health food store. Those are awesome.
I live in southeast Kansas and I work 2 jobs one out them is overnight, so sometimes when I go to work I'm not home again for 17 hours. I'm thirty minutes from a health food store.I'm 2 hours from a big health good store like whole foods.
Like I said about 90 percent off my diet is fresh fruit, vegetables, and juice, I just wish there were more raw options
Available on the go.
I guess I just need to make my own raw snacks.

I eat Larabars once in a while. I agree that bananas are a great snack food. I alos keep grapes on hand to snack on...I wash some in the morning so they are easy to eat.

If you are religious about raw food, then be aware that most snack food sold, aren't raw or not sprouted etc.... You can carry an avocado, dates or plan to prepare your own snack food if you have a dehydrator. Just research and read. You can find good snack food but they are usually expensive. Raisin, aren't typically raw and very high temperature are used to dry them, i am sure you can find something that use the sun to dry them. Again, this is something to research. I personally, consume them and i am not so worry about it because, i prefer having them then nuts as snack. Unless i know the nuts is truly raw and soaked. If you are stuck and hungry, then you got to do what you need to do.
If you carry chia seed, you can make yourself a pudding in no time. Very good with slice of banana and squeeze lemon juice. I add golden berries and gojji berries. Larabars are very toxic to me, it is guaranty that i will rash after eating them and have skin problem on my face. I prefer abstinence versus eating that.

You can make your own raw pickles! Buy (or grow) some pickling cucumbers - smaller is better, so less seeds. Wash, slice, and place in clean mason jars, season as desired (I like fresh garlic, black pepper corns, mustard seeds, dill, and crushed red pepper). Then fill the jar 3/4 full with raw apple cider vinegar, and top off with clean water. Place in fridge and allow to pickle for one week before you open the jar.
