Allow me to allow my congratulations also! I have been juicing roughly 35 years, and with a whole variety of juicers. I'm delighted to see that you didn't start in about whether you got the best juicer or not. Honestly, I sure wish back in the 70's when I started in college, that there were inexpensive juicers for me to try out! There weren't - my first veggie juicer was a big Braun that cost me nearly $100 in those dollars. From there an Acme, etc.
The best juicer for you is one that you'll use, and gain the benefits, every day. Buy a really expensive juicer and find that you don't like fiddling with it, and you'll just quit and feel screwed out of money. Love your HB and learn with it while you experiment with different combos. Then, if you find you've outgrown its capabilities, you can start looking around.
One thing changed radically around 15 years ago when we really started getting hit with the TV infomercials. When I learned juicing so long ago, people definitely didn't mix their fruit and veggie juices. In fact, the general rule was, eat fruit, juice veggies. With the possible exception of apple, I still follow that. Why? We were taught that fruits are high in sugars that can just sit and ferment on/in you. Whether it's been proven wrong or not, I don't know. OTOH, it mystifies me that people would want to run citrus, etc., through a veggie juicer instead of a citrus juicer or just a $5 reamer. Different strokes.
Regardless, I do hope you and your new juicer get to be good friends!
I second that. Juicing fruit can lead to blood sugar spikes, and mixing fruits and veggies can lead to problems digesting the fruit.
n fact, the general rule was, eat fruit, juice veggies.
You were taught correctly, it seems like people just don't want to follow that rule anymore because they are too used to liking sweet food and beverages and probably can't stomach straight vegetable juice.
Now, I think that's pretty sad...I drink green sprout and weed (wild greens, not marijuana :) juices everyday and let me tell you, those are strong! Vegetable juice tastes like water in comparison. Our taste buds can adapt very quickly, so it's unfortunate that so many people insist on mixing fruit with their juices when they could just drink unpleasant-tasting green juices for a few weeks, then have their taste buds adapt and start to enjoy them. *sigh*
I too wanted to mix some sweet juice in with the green stuff at first, but I quickly moved toward just swallowing even wild grass juice. Eating some nice fruit later is a good reward!

i mixed just carrots and tomato yesterday for juice didn't like it very much i think i should have added a bit of celery might have tasted better
tried to give it a little twist in the tast with a squeze of lime and figured i ended up just wasting 3 carrots and 1 roma tomatoe because it was yucky after that so there is another combination of what i won't do
i also decided yesterday i would peel the carrots to see if it gave a different taste to just puytting the whole carrot in without peeling it i didn't notice a change so not going to wast the extra 10 minutes peeling carrots anymore
The only juicing I do anymore is an occasional morning zinger: celery, apple, ginger and lemon. Goodness, who needs coffee! I've given up other juicing for the most part.
I trudge the road of happy destiny in the sunlight of the spirit!
