    Default dandelion greens

    I went to my parents house today who live in the country and gathered a load of dandelion greens, beautiful! But I was wondering, do any of you know if the b12 in dandelion greens the the analog or the absorbable (to humans) b12??? I plan to juice them, and do enjoy dandelion greens either way, but would love to know the answer to this...thanks!

    As fgaras I know dandelion greens don't have any b12, analog or not; if they do, though, it's bound to be the analog version. If you don't wash them you'll get some b12 from the bacteria living on the leaves. You'll get some b12 even if you do wash them if you only wash them lightly with water. Many of the vegetables and fruit available in the supermarket are pre-washed and soaked in chlorine to kill all possibly pathogenic bacteria, but that also prevents us from getting b12.

    hm, that's true..i don't plan on washing them, love the extra bacteria..! but I did read somewhere it contains b12, and that is why i wondered which type. but perhaps they were referring to the b12 from the bacteria, maybe not! thanks for the insight!

    I have a sneaking feeling that bacteria is where we have always got the main source of b12. Sometime soon it may be reaslised that all this washing of foods and anti bac spraying in the home is not the best way to go.

    Certainly makes sense to me. It's a fine line to walk - on the one hand, you do want good bacteria and exposure to certain levels of bacteria to make sure your immune system is strong...on the other hand, you want to wash parasites and parasite eggs off your food, too.

    yes, i agree...the bacteria is definitely beneficial, and vital to our health...i love eating wild foods whenever i can
