Default I'm going camping and would like some suggestions

    Hello All and Happy Friday!!
We are going camping today for the weekend and have a pop up camper with a refrigerator in it so I can take food. Other than the usual fruit and veggies along with my homemade granola bars, any fun suggestions for camping food?

Since you have a fridge, you can make pudding cups. I like banana & avocado or mango & banana. Or you can do chocolate. You can spread nut butter on cut up fruit or veggies.

How was your camping trip and what did you take? I'll be camping at the end of May.

Thank you for asking! Camping was great!! Fire pit at night and beach during the day.
I took my granola bars, fresh fruit, I did have some flax pizza crusts that I put some sprouts, tomatoes and olives on. I also took cut up veggies and arugula. Nothing wild and creative but it was fine. I did miss my green smoothie and fresh juice. Our camper had a water hose issue so I could not clean anything easily and didn't want to make a mess with the blender. I also packed some cookies that I made with left over veggies from juicing.
I hope you have a great time. Let me know how your trip goes. Or you roughing it or are you like me with a great little pop-up with a fridge?

We aren't roughing it by any means, but no fridge, sadly. I think my salad stuff will keep in the cooler for the two nights we are staying. This is my first raw camp out. My kids, my wife and our friends will all be having that fun, camping food. Kind of a bummer. I was going to bring my blender, but you make a good point about not being able to wash it. I didn't think of that.

You have given me some ideas and I've added my own. My current raw camping plan:

    smoothies are out
    lots of fresh fruit
salad stuff and dressings in the cooler
dehydrated fruit, granola, nuts, egg plant jerky, crackers etc for snacking
    sprouts

Aside from not having smoothies it should be a pretty normal eating pattern for me.

I also took lemons and avacados (one of my favorite quick snacks) and we have a really great store that carries raw protein bars. It actually made my camping trip easier because everything can be finger picking food. Because I was constantly pulling out fruit and veggie platters, the added bonus was that the group we were with, on the second night there, stuck to the raw items and decided not to bring out the usual campfire fare. Their daughter did pull out regular chips for my salsa but all in all it worked out. Saved a lot of hassle and clean up:)
    Good Luck and have fun!!

Sprouts and weeds. A thread called "Staying raw on holiday is easy" (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthrea...light=vacation) talks a little about how easy it is to bring enough food to last for weeks if you just bring some legumes and seeds to sprout. Find out what edible weeds are in your area, there's usually massive amounts of them (gold mine waiting to be tapped), and they're one of the best foods you can eat.
