    Smile Kids and Raw

I would love a kids' cookbooks and so glad someone asked.

I am not sure if previous posters have kiddos or not, but I do think as my husband and I are changing our diet that we are becoming increasingly aware of how much society and peers influence kids eating from an early age.

We witness so many people who say...ahhh but you HAVE to have a lollipop etc when you go to the bank or it is a birthday party-you have to have hot dogs and cake...or whatever. So we get a lot of looks like we are robbing our kids of their childhood memories so I am interested in ways to have recipes that bridge the gap of what all their friends are eating and may help introduce more people to a new way of eating as well.

Also, unless kids do raw from birth--it is a bit "different" so they are very aware of how no one is eating like them. So I am curious about recipes that can have some mainstream appeal to help them transition since they are too young to really grasp the intellectual concept, "it is just better for you."

What is the easiest way to help them transition since it is not their choice but ours (which I think is the difference between an adult picky eater and a child)

    Thanks for any book input!

Lightbulb Titles of books on raw food I purchased for our baby to come :)

    Hello everyone,

I am 6 months pregnant and I searched internet for books on 'raw food for babied and kids'. Not transition, but raw food from the day one since this is our first child. (though most of these books give advice on transition as well, which can be helpful for those of with older kids).

    1. Evie's Kitchen: Raising an Ecstatic Child, by Shazzie (15 EUR)

    2. Baby Greens: A Live-Food Approach for Children of All Ages
Michael Chrisemer (Author), Michaela Lynn (Author) (12 EUR)

    3. Sunsational baby food recipes (7,5 EUR)

    4. Monkey Mike's Raw Food Kitchen: An Un-cookbook for Kids! (15 EUR)

The bad news first: books number 3 and 4 are ordered from Terra Warner web (http://www.terawarner.com/monkey-mike). Please do not be fooled, like I was. When you open the web for ordering these 2 'books' there is a lot of text. Most of you won't read it though, like I did not (but if you do, you will find somewhere in the middle of the HUGE text a ONE SMALL notion that these are e-books..). No where at the beginning of the end of the huge text is mentioned that these are E-BOOKS, not hard-copies. Mind me, but they cost like hard-copies (I bought Victoria Buotenko hard copy of "Green for life" for the same money). Afterwars, when you order them and pay for them, it is nowhere stated that you are buying E-BOOKS and imagine: they ask you for a shipping address (why on Earth would one need a shipping address for an e-book. So we never suspected that we are ordering e-books). That was until we received an e-mail with download link.... Of course we never checked it so it expired after 24hrs. We were waiting for the hard-copies in our mail. A bit late, we realized the links and eventually we wrote to the customer's service asking for an explanation because we have been fooled. No one answered for 4 days. We only received an email from them after saing 'we were gonna ask Pay Pall for our money back'. Shame. This email contained new link to download e-books and no explanation about the question about e-books. We were so disappointed. We wrote again but no one bothered to answer. We expected so much more from someone who claims to be a dedicated raw foodist and has web and forums about raw moms (for which you have to pay, of course). Eventually, I unsubscribed from all their services.

Mind the bad service, we did not find in these 2 e-books the information we needed about feeding babies. I am expecting our first child, and have no idea which food is allowed at 6 months/7months/and so on. But I do have a clue there is a way of introducing food to a child, I just do not know how (and I hoped to find it in those books. Well, I did not.) I guess both are nice e-books for older kids. They have only recipes and not a paragraph about vitamins/minerals/what child needs for a balanced diet.

Sunsational baby recipes have 34 pages.
    Monkey Mike has 144 pages

So, it's on you to decide if those 2 e-books suit your needs.

    Now the GREAT NEWS:

EVIE'S KITCHEN, BY SHAZZIE is an amazing and huge book printed on high quality paper and really not that expensive at all (we bought it on amazon.de for 15 Euros). It is full of great info and lovely photos. THere you will find all the info one might think of (vitamines- the ones to watch on, brestfeeding, pregnancy a bit,, how to start baby on raw food, basic nutritional requirements, first foods 6-12 months and later on recipes : breakfast, soups, savoury main dishes, salads, snacks, dips, sweets, smoothies...Total of 250 pages) I am delighted. Way to go.

Baby Greens: A Live-Food Approach for Children of All Ages : another great book (enzymes, digestion, protein, vitamins, especially b-12, about synthetic vitamins, sea vegetables, recieps, references fr further reading. total of 174 pages.) I recommend it.

Another great book, though not on feeding your baby with raw food, but more about the whole concept of attachment parenting and kids and raw food (there are recipes inside as well) is Karen Ranzi 'Creating healthy children'. Good quality book, 500 pages, appx 20 EUR. I think you would love it.

Those are my new books on babies and raw food :)

    I hope it helps :)

Children have different needs then adults... like more calories, more fats, ect. They also, can't always eat a big salad like an adult can. My 6 yr.old couldn't really eat her salad until she was around 3 and then it was still a small salad.. So I had to find other ways to get her greens in. Having a book with fun recipes that are tailored to children is very helpful for those with younger children. Now that my kiddos range in age from 6 to 16, its not as much of an issue.. They can just eat what we eat..

I would check out books from the library and see which ones I liked and then I would order the ones I liked. I have a few that had some good info. in them. You can also google children's raw recipes and find a bunch that way as well.

I used also many recipes from Allissa's book. Such the crepe, instead of filling with nuts, i make a coconut sauce. She loves that.

Unless children has been exposed to sad food, they naturally don't like too much mixing and like it simple. My daughter has been raised 100% and she loves fruits. At time, she loves cashew cheese and she crave for more heavy food such sprouted lentils. But she has been raised 100% raw.

I use young coconut to make noddle and i simply blend fresh tomato and sundry tomato to make the sauce, sometime i will add a drop of lemon juice and nothing else for her.

You can make many raw desert and pudding for them. Every raw food book has something you could make for children. Shazie has a book for children, i bought it and it has many creative recipes but because it is mixed food, i couldn't use it for my daughter but it would work for many children that love food that taste like the cook one.

You could try alissa's crackers and turn them into a pizza. I do this and my daughter loves that. She only want sauce and mushroom.

    All the best!

p.s I think for children, is to find a way to present simple food in an amazing and creative way.
