Unhappy Liver issues with cats... And suppliments.

So..... I had to put my beautiful kitty to sleep today because her liver was failing. She only had a day to two left to live. My children and my husband and I are soooooo very sad. I keep wondering what I could have done to help her be stronger.

The vet said that her blood work looked like her liver had been weak and struggling for a little while. We never noticed anything.

We still have other pets in the house and so I'm now wondering if or what I could give my pets to support their bodies. We can't afford raw food diets for them, but we do by the more natural, no fillers, no chemicals, etc. pet foods for them.

Any suggestions?? We have a dog and another cat.

    Thanks,
    Cathy

If you grow a few trays of wheatgrass (or other cereal grasses) and put them near their food bowls or anywhere else they can easily find them then they'll eat it. Wheatgrass is very good for supporting and protecting the liver, among many other things.

So I wouldn't need to cut it for them, just let them eat it like they would if their outside?? Wonderful!! That makes total sense.

I am so so sorry to read this. Hope your family is recovering.

I buy wild salmon in cane from Costco. I figured it isn't more expensive then to buy a can of cat food. I know this isn't as healthy as fresh but this is the best i can do now, also at the very least i know it is only salmon beside the salt. I have also the AVO dry food (grain free and human grade). My cats has a beautiful fur.

I am hoping to learn on this site.

    All the best!

Sorry to hear that Goodcat. The wheat grass sounds good but please avoid canned fish if it comes in brine. It's incredibly bad for their kidneys. If you wanted to feed fish then I think fresh or frozen would be better. What breed of cat is it or is it a moggy? Some breeds have issues with certain conditions and so it may be that the liver was more vulnerable. Moggies tend to be more robust.

I love my felines, i guess i will have to get pass this repulsive feeling with dead meat OR fish. I could manage it with already cook. I did cook some with a little electric stove last year but it is a lot of work when you are busy.

I heard of captivity whale getting sick with fish already dead.

What food you feel is the best for cat beside the mice?

    Thanks!

I think ideally raw meat and bone and a little cooked veg/greens which is sort of close to real food. It should include meat of the organs too. Preferably not frozen and only recently dead. Mice transmit worms and fleas so has a downside!

Try milk thistle - worked for one of my animal companions when they were experiencing liver failure. Hope your kitty feels better soon.
