Freezing juice?
Hi everyone,
just wondering if anyone freezes their juice?
I know fresh juice made right before consuming is probably the best thing to do... but, with my schedule and laziness there is no way that I can make it daily.
what I've been doing is making about 1 gallon per 3-4 days and keeping it in the fridge. I notice on the 2nd day, it's starting to "brown" a little, and the taste isn't as fresh.. 4th day is still fine, but, can't wait to make a new batch and get that fresh taste/color.
is there any downside to freezing juice?
My plan is to make about 2 gallons on weekend to get me thru the week.... keep 1/2 gallon in the fridge at all times, and the remaining frozen in 1/2gallon jugs.
yay or nay?
overthinking it? my main concern is losing 'nutrients'/etc...

I think you'll lose more by keeping it in the refrigerator than you will by freezing it.

Plus, once it is frozen you should be able to keep it for months. Sounds like a good way to help get through winter!

It is definitely losing nutrients, you are basically throwing your $ down the drain. Fresh juice should be drunk within 15 minutes of making it or it will start to oxidize and most if not all nutrients will be lost.
If you HAVE to store juice it should be saved in glass single serving bottles and the bottle should be filled completely up- so that no air is in the glass. You should drink the entire juice once an individual bottle is opened, not drink some then put the bottle back in the fridge.
I personally would never store juice (although I realize some do or have to) but if I did store it, it definitely wouldn't be for more than a day.

It starts oxidising the minute it comes into contact with oxygen. I doesn't wait 15 minutes!

Freezing juice
I've actually been doing some research, and freezing is perfectly safe and healthy. Of course, drinking fresh juice is ideal and will offer the most nutritional benefits, but freezing juice is a great way to supplement your diet and save some time.
I've started freezing some juices to take to work during the week, so I freeze on Sunday and drink throughout the week, but I wouldn't let it sit for too long in the freezer. If you are doing a juice cleanse, I would recommend NOT doing all your juice this way, but using it to supplement your fresh stuff. I still juice fresh stuff every morning in addition to drinking the frozen stuff.
Mis-information about juicing (like the idea that you have to drink it in 15 minutes) actually deterred me from juicing for a long time. If I didn't drink my juice right away I though it lost all it's nutritional value. In fact, that's just not the case. It will lose some of it's nutrition over time, but it still contains way more nutrition than a lot of foods in the SAD diet.
This study of different juicers has some great info for you :) They talk about the effects of letting juices sit in the fridge, and freezing. The type of juicer you use has a huge impact as well.

I just started making wheat grass juice and have been freezing the left over in ice cube trays since I won't be drinking it all at once. Going to try at least a shot a day so will see if it makes a difference. Probably best immediately but I think I am still getting the nutrients.

i froze my juices for many fasts... and it wasn't a problem. as my body became cleaner though it no longer liked the taste of frozen juice so... for me... i trust my tastebuds. they always let me know when it's time to change things up.

if you do freeze be careful not to fill the jars too full because the water will expand when the juice freezes and the glass may break

If you juice with a low speed juicer ( no oxydation), you can keep it longer maybe three - four days.
It is best to juice and not to freeze it. You will lose the life force from it. Cook and frozen food age your body. Especially the cook. In moderation frozen food is ok but only in moderation.

Why would you freeze anything in a glass jar?

Three cheers for that paragraph. Even if it were to lose all it's nutrients I would rate it over a sad, non-vegan, non-raw meal.
I do prefer the taste of freshly squeezed/juiced fruits and veg though. I haven't tried freezing because I don't have a freezer at the moment.

Pyrex with sloping outward sides is fine. In fact most glass with sides that slope outwards is fine.
