blender options
I am shopping for powerful blenders. I have a Cuisinart blender. It's old and I think the motor is starting to burn out. I would love to have a Vitamix because of all the good things I've heard, but it is so expensive. Is it worth the price? Are there any other blenders like it that cost lest? Any comments would be appreciated.

I'd say a high-speed blender is DEFINITELY worth the price. Mine has changed my life!!! I wish I had gotten one months ago.
I can't imagine there's all that much difference between Blendtech and Vitamix, both seem pretty amazing from what I've seen, although loyalties seem pretty fiercely divided at times hahahaahahhaa! Omega (the juicer people) also have high-power blenders that seem like they rival both these brands.
I'd recommend checking out a good used one on eBay or Craig's List. I just saw a Vitamix on my local Craig's List for $95! What I did was go to the Vitamix website and buy a refurbished one. There's also refurbished machines available on Amazon. Also there's the QVC, which sells new Vitamix blenders but offers the option of making several payments.

I think a lot depends on how much you use a blender although I can see that I might use a vitamix more if I enjoyed using it more than the blender that I have at the moment which is pretty shoddy!
If you are someone who already uses a blender everyday then a vitamix is probably worth the money over the next 20 years. Even if you don't use it every day it is probably worth the money. If I had that kind of money spare I would get one. It's on my lottery win list of things to buy!

I would say yes the vitamix is worth it. I burnt up 3 other blenders before my hubby agreed to let me get it. You can go to qvc and they have a payment plan.

Thanks, Qwerty, Georgina, and Tracey. I'll check out Craig's List and Ebay. I never thought about finding a refurbished one. I didn't even think it was possible, but I would consider that as well. I also found this one on the QVC website:
http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/v...-B2300-Blender
but I'm not sure if it is powerful enough. I want something that is powerful enough to make nut butters, or anything else I desire.
I just made a smoothie this morning and it took forever! I am so tired of my blender taking so long, and requiring so much water to get it to move.

Some of the top-end juicers will make nut butters

theres not any reveiws of this omega out there , but omegas been making respected juicers for decades so has experience and prooven record . and this has an extra stainless pitcher which to me is huge if blender lasts long because it ll last forever saving money later on for possible cost of new pitcher . this isnt near as powerful as vitamix though , but its stronger than basic blenders which are 450 watt , this ones 700 watt . and to me if you dont beat it by cramming in a bunch of stuff but raher going bit by bit like i do with my 550 watt itll last . link : http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004VQC6LK/...?tag=dradis-20

IFyou already know, from your current daily eating habits, that you are going to get frequent use (by which I mean several times per week, longterm, rather than a new fad), then yes, the investment is definitely worth it. A don't particularly like Vitamix as a company but they do produce good quality machines that last many years.
Blendtec had a good reputation, but I was unimpressed when I looked at the engineering of the blade and ballrace assembly fitted to the base of the carafe, when I checked them out a couple of years ago. This may have changed (or it may not have changed at all), but at that time, I recall the Vitamix blade/ballrace assembly being WAY more substantially engineered. It's not all about the horsepower rating - do check out the engineering of the blade/ballrace assemblies on each machine before purchasing.
To be honest, I see no reason to choose a Blendtec/Ktec over a Vitamix. I'm not saying the Blentec/Ktecs aren't good machines; I'm just saying I don't personally see that they have anything to offer over and above a Vitamix.
This is just my personal opinion, so please, no flaming from any Blendtec/Ktec fans reading this.
Also, if you're going to make a worthwhile investment, I'd strongly suggest you go for a fullsize 3hp blender. You need something that will handle whatever you throw at it, otherwise you're just going to end up wishing you'd bought a 3hp blender.
Customers in the USA are very fortunate that they can obtain a Vitamix at a reasonable investment. In the UK, the price of a Vitamix is bordering on criminal!
'Breathless', please try to view your potential purchase up close and personal before spending your money. Compare the engineering, as I've outlined, then make your own decision.
All the best.

Price being equal, which would you recommend.... the Omega, the Blendtec or the Vitamix?
Btw I just checked the QVC and saw they offerred all three brands for similar prices and with a monthly payment plan!

£599.00 from the vitamix website for the Vitamix® Professional Series 500.
£459.00 from the vitamix website for the Vitamix® TNC White
1 UK£ = 1.58300 US$
You do the math ... as you say over there!

im not one to ask because no experience with these machines . only thing i can say is where you buy because of warranty / returns activity is important . thats why i push bedbathbeyond because theyre verycivil about exchanges , where as ive had big difficulty with some on line return activity . this angle is one of the reasons i linked this sears kenmore blender because theyre very good about refunds / warranties
