Thanks for the info on oil pulling Querty!
Never heard of that before but ive gone and done some reading and will give it a go shortly.

Found some coconut oil at a stall in my town, £4.50 for 200g. May try sunflower or olive oil instead at first for cost reasons.

Question for those with sensitive skin... Do you break out from using coconut oil? I need a good moisturizer but most lotions and oils make me break out after using them over time... I'm thinking about trying a small amount of this to see if it does anything good/bad.

and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind:
and God saw that it was good.

You're welcome! I'm really loving it.

Also if you can find cold-pressed sesame oil, I think that's the oil that was traditionally used.

I have sensitive skin and not only can I wash my face with coconut oil, I can moisturize withit and leave it on all day and all night with no breakouts!

My skin LOVES IT..... I never thought I'd actually be washing my face with oil! I use the hot washcloth-steaming method and my face isn't greasy at all from it -- quite the opposite, I can't do it every day because it can make my face too dry!

I think it's an individual thing, but I'd definitely recommend trying it and seeing how your skin reacts to it. I've thrown away all my skin products and only use coconut oil now for everything!

    Adobegirl,

I'd be concerned with such a low total cholesterol -- 118. Anything below 150 and there may be a danger of hormonal imbalances due to not enough cholesterol to help your body make hormones.

Mr Raw, I think those are really good thoughts about the chia and sunflower greens. I already grow and consume the sunnie greens, but not the chia greens.....Good idea.

Also, re the digestive enzymes along with it, this also sounds good, but isn't fat digested in the intestine, therefore the digestive enzymes may? be best as enteric ones, while ingesting the coconut oil?

Again, I'm considering doing a coconut oil cleanse of sorts....Now you've got me thinking I should be scientific about it...get blood testing before, during and after....Hmmmm.

The following link might be interesting because it does differentiate between different types of coconut oil.

Thank you so much for your information. I periodically get checked by my herbalist because I am under so much stress that he is concerned about my health. He has started checking me every month to try to get everything balanced. Unfortunately stress (and stress I can't seem to get out from under due to other people) really does a number on the body, raw or not (though things definitely are better on raw).

Last time he checked, he did see that I do in fact have a hormonal imbalance so it's really interesting that you said that. He did not say anything about my cholesterol (I can't remember what the other numbers were but the bad was in a good range and the good was a little low). He is having me use a cream called Ostaderm to help with this. I will definitely ask him when I see him later this month if it is causing some issues with the cholesterol. My cholesterol has always been under 150 for as long as I've had it checked, but I do want to be as healthy as I can while I'm around. He also has put me on some liver cleanse stuff and thyroid stuff since that blood test. Thanks for telling me that.

That link is really interesting, MysticTree. Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

Edited to add- So sorry for going off topic to original op! :/

Oops, after re-reading your post that I wrote, I see I wrote it wrong (however, I think you got the gist of it anyway).

It should read: Anything below 150 and there may be a danger of hormonal imbalances due to not enough cholesterol to help your body make HORMONES (I wrote "cholesterol." )

Best of luck to you Adobegirl. Hope you get to the bottom of it all. High stress often = low progesterone. And with your cholesterol being too low, you have the possibility of diminished progesterone too.

Just some thoughts....`will go and edit my first post to read correctly....

I think if you looked into what else these people where eating with the coconut oil you would find that they were also eating lots of grains & sugars and that would be where their cholesterol problems.

Also, Coconut oil when used as a hair conditioner before shampoo gives your hair shine, strength and volume. Coming out of the hair is also not a problem as it helps your shampoo lather. Just let the shampoo sit for a bit and rinse. All natural soaps made with coconut oil can lather in the ocean which is pretty hard to achieve with commercial soaps.

Also when coconut oil is mixed with certain essential oils they together made an excellent scalp stimulator for hair growth.

I bet it would be good in a pudding recipe to add creaminess.

Coconut oil is very useful for diabetic who often have dry skin problems. I use this oil on my legs, feet, heels especially. It can be used in regular cooking and baking of course. Coconut oil is wonderful in fried or scrambled eggs. When cooking with coconut oil, nothing sticks to your pot or skillet

applying coconut oil to face for those that creates a firery/heat tension and/or flames face up pink or red...i'm only aware of this doing to those who have seb-derm. it's dandruff to the face generaly caused by candia. and some cases of rosacea to which usualy has seb-derm hand in hand.
however those effected by seb-derm and rosacea are usualy okay applying everywhere else on the body besides face and are safe eating coconut oil. i've never heard of a single case not able to use elsewhere.

also coconut oil applying topicaly rids yeast infections, diaper rashes and some other skin infections.
