    Default Advice needed

I have a pure breed pit bull who we have had since a baby, she is now 10yrs. We understand with old age come sore bones.... Kia had a major surgery in June due to a cervical infection. The surgery saved her life. Although we noticed her before the surgery crying when she walks up or down stairs it is now getting very bad where she dont want to go outside and pee. She has gotten thicker and if you even go to touch her backside around the top of her tail/ spine she crys. We think it's arthritis because of her age but would it Not effect her entire body? She also lives near the wood stove. We are not big on vets because of the cost and most time we have help our dogs more than we feel vets have. Any help with advise or diagnosis would be greatly appreciated.

I'd give her MSM powder! It works on arthritis and also muscle soreness and body pains. You can get it through your vet or anywhere online!

Some pain relievers may make her life more enjoyable - and if you do the condroitin sulfate MSM products, it takes awhile for the effects for build up. In this case, rely on your Vet as most that are going to be effective are prescription! Not a good idea to play around with people meds... (this from my husband the retired vet)

MSM is a pain reliever and anti-inflammatory and is completely safe.

can you find an animal chiropractor? Maybe she has some spinal issues that they would be best to diagnose. Look online for your area or call around to human ones - they may know.

I only said it TAKES TIME to come to full effect........... read. And nothing is "completely safe". Not for pets, not for humans.

And I second the chiropractor route. We used that frequently. Sorry I didn't think of it earlier.

Please take her to the vet. She sounds like she is suffering terribly. It might be her hips. She old for a pit bull so you have to treat her like a little old lady.

MSM was used on dogs and horses way before it was used on humans.

I've owned dogs for 40 years, my oldest going to from 17-19 years, and several have been those larger heavy-boned breeds like pittbulls and pointers.... and it really works on them as they age and get achey and sore!
