Default Going Raw but is it Safe before IVF

    Hello,

I am 30 years old and approx 30 to 35 pounds over weight. I put all this weight on in the last year. My husband I am doing IVF treatment in Feb. I start my shots on Feb 5th and they harvest the week of the 15th-17th and implant the next week. I wish I would have started raw a while ago but I am the type that must first read everything I can on it first. One problem, I am still scared after reading about detoxing issues. If I start raw now do you guys think it could affect my implantation potential if I am having any detox symptoms???? I really want to get healthy again and to have a healthy pregnancy. My first two pregnancies were horrible because I was so unhealthy. I had high blood pressure, swelling, and liver problems. Probably all due to the fact that I put on so much weight when I was pregnant. I would like to maybe do it right this time and possibly actually enjoy being pregnant. I would love to hear any advice and/or opinions. Thanks!!!

    Kelly

Woops I just saw I posted in the wrong forum......sorry

Yes it's safe. Safer probably than IVF but good luck with that.

I think it would be OK. It might be a different matter if you were talking about doing a water fast or going on a commercial cleansing program.

How could it be anything but safe? Raw food is just food ... but healthier than processed and meat-based foods.

I dunno those fruits and veggies....risky stuff. <sarcasm

Your headed the right direction Kelly, give your body and your baby a huge boost, go raw!

I'd guess your first pregnancies were troublesome because you were eating unhealthily, not because you were putting on weight. Don't most women who get pregnant put on weight? It seems you came to raw for a very good reason, you want to eat healthy, and safely, for you and your baby.

I am curious though, why IVF? (In Vitro Fertilization)

Yes, you might put on weight when your pregnant...........but probably not 100lbs. I ate way too many oreos and hamburgers. Now that I have read everything on raw, I really just want to do it to be healthy.......don't get me wrong any weight loss is an awesome side benefit. Plus, I have read it helps overcome food addiction which I suffer from. I obsess over food and yoyo from 115lbs to up to 150lbs.......strict dieting to food binging. I was actually trying to find a diet that will cover everything.

I am not all that happy about doing IVF. My husband and I are doing it for the sex selection. We have 2 girls and he wants a boy so the "Soria" name doesn't die. I am fine with having another child but I really don't care about the sex and would much prefer having it the "normal" way. Oh well. I am not thrilled about the shots and hormones I will be injecting......kind of scary!!!!

I know some say I am crazy but.......well it means the world to him.

By the way.........I realize fruits and veggies are awesome........however, it is very freaky about the so called "detox" people go thru. With all my studing and reading on the subject, it freaks me out a little.

If you read enough then you will find the flip side of the coin that says that detox is just another load of bunk. I have only suffered from caffeine withdrawal when going raw. I have never had any of the other so-called detox symptoms. I'm not saying that detox doesn't exist but it certainly is a possibility that it doesn't and it is a certainty that if it does then you won't definitely have symptoms.

    You'll be fine.

Actually, I have. It's amazing the contraversy out there regarding raw and if you should at least add some organic meats or not. I felt is safer to read both sides of the coin. I actually started raw today. I already cut out most caffeine and was eating raw for 2 meals a day. Today, I am hoping to stay raw thru out the day. I am currently down a few pounds.........just weighed, so that is good. I really want to get healthy and stay healthy. It's amazing how hard it is though. I will get it though. This site is really helpful. I have been reading all the blogs and its really encouraging! If I can just get thru 2 weeks, I think I will stay on without falling off the raw path.

This is a raw vegan forum so we don't discuss the merits (or otherwise) of meats.
Eating 100% raw for 6 months will make you feel amazing. You'll notice a change almost immediately and you won't regret trying it.

I think you will be ok. It is very important to keep your calories up and to get a LOT of greens. And you will need to make the effort to increase them even more once you are pregnant. If it were me, I would track my intake with some sort of nutrition tracker until I get comfortable with knowing the amounts I need to eat to meet calories and nutritional needs. I use Cron-O-Meter, it is free and has both a desktop and web version. Just give it a google. Not saying you can't figure your your nutritional needs, but sometimes it is surprising when we think we are eating enough and it turns out we are nowhere close. Adding some juices and green smoothies daily helps a lot with that. And do not fear the avocado. You do need fats in your system and so does the baby.

If you find you are short on calories, a great and quick way to get them is with a datorade. Bananas/water or almond milk to your preferred thickness/dates --whiz in a blender and enjoy.

It is good that you are being so wonderfully health conscious a bit ahead of time.

Not long before I went raw I would often down a whole full size pack of a common american black and white compressed discs in a sitting, the whole lot of triangles that came hot in a nasty BPA laden cardboard box, and a whole tub of frozen animal fat, just for examples.

My detox at its worst was diarrhea. At its best I felt a little light headed. Even eating poorly, I'd say terribly, my whole life of 23 years prior to going raw, detox wasn't so bad. Don't make the process of getting rid of the toxins a drama, consider what your new boy will take shape in if you don't. I love it that you are starting just in time to give your boy a taste of lifes best before birth.

One thing that I would like to see less of is the use of pregnancy as an excuse to splurge on bad foods. It makes far more sense as an excuse (or very good reason) to avoid bad foods and eat healthily. Its not just moms diet being defined, but mom and kids.

And fats aren't bad, unless you are having heart problems, so eat up. As long as fats are raw plant based it is hard to gain weight and still easy to loose it (with the possible exception of oils.)

You should definitely start before you get pregnant. When those hormones kick in whew. I stayed rawtill my 5th month and things went great. Weird after birth I craved celery juice just couldn't get enough of it. Some of the greens have Phyto estrogens so this might actually help your process. I think if you do a search you will find old threads on this topic. Wishing you a healthy new start.

I don't think she's asking if the foods are safe. She's asking about her body's reactions, stuff like intestinal distress afecting the IVF or the detoxing of heavy metals affecting the the IVF in the same way as if she had just been recently exposed to them. All these things have to pass through your system again before exiting and can be just as dangerous as if you were just recently exposed to them.
