Hypothyroidism
Hi There,
I am new to these forums, forgive me if this is not posted in the correct place.
I have recently been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, I also have hypertension am obese & and 42.
I am on high blood pressure meds and have been taking pills for my hypothyroidism -- many of my friends have opted for lap band surgery or bypass. This is NOT the road I want to go on (my thoughts about these surgeries are for another board and place)
Is anyone in this forum or do any of you know anyone who has been on a raw food diet and has lost weight with hypothyroidism. No matter how little I eat and how much I exercise at this point, the weight will just not budge.
I would appreciate any thoughts or experiences any of you have had.
Thanks,
JP

There are testimony here if you do a search.
You need to seriously consider to go 100% raw food. Semi acid fruits such grape, berries, apples, watermelon, oranges, etc...(must be ripe), has been known as having amazing healing effect and rejuvenation. Herbs such dandelion, parsley, cilantro, basil, wheat grass, are fantastic. I make often a smoothie with banana, mango and one fresh herbs. It is so good. As for the wheat grass, i juice it with apple, lemon or oranges. So bearable (wheat grass, you need to start a small quantity and work you way through it). Leafy greens, you can juice them or make smoothie with fruits again. (kale, spinach, mix green, etc....). Don't forget to use sea weed. They are very important for your thyroid/parathyroid gland.
Your first steps is to go 100% raw food then, upgrade your diet with as much fresh ripe fruits, leafy greens, fresh herbs, sprout as possible. If you don't have it, get Alissa's Cohen DVD, she is a great help to transition to raw food. Gourmet food will help you to transition, on your own time, you will upgrade your diet naturally.

Hi there:
My name is Juli and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 18 years ago. I am on a natural thyroid prescription called Armour. Anyway, the thyroid will fluctuate daily with many, many variables. So, you must be working with a doctor who understands this. There are days where I feel more stressed, so I take more thyroid. Just because your doc. prescribes a med. that doens't meant that it's going remain the same each day. Go to www.stopthethyroidmadness.com This will educate you on the different meds available. I would suggest trying a natural vs. synthetic like Synthroid.
I've been raw for 29 days and have released 12 lbs. 8 came off in the first 9 days! I was tickled. I have 15 more to go.
Preparation is key. Read all you can on Raw. In addition to Alisa's books and DVD there a many, many authors on the subject. The internet is a great source too. Once you make up your mind that you are going to make a change, you will do it! Some people say to go 100% raw right away (that's what I did, with the exception of green tea), but others say to ease into it.
Your body with thank you no matter what route you choose!
Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!

Thank you for your responses.
I was at the Dr. today and my weight is up, cholesterol is up, tsh is up all my medication doses went up.
I took notes on green smoothies yesterday -- today after the Dr. I walked right into my supermarket. Tomorrow morning will be my first green drink...frankly I am a little excited. I refuse to be one the obese that feels weight loss surgery is the only long term answer.

I also want to add that during the last two years my thyroid was really off which was the route of other health issues. I gained 35 lbs. Some days I couldn't even function. I was achy, tired and depressed which contributed to making poor diet and life style choices. Then, I found a natural doctor and worked with my chiropractor to get my thyroid back on track. There's much more than just popping a pill.
During the last 29 days (which is nothing)I talk only positive to myself...all day long...
"I am stronger than I know"
"I deserve a healthy body"
"I can do this"
It's not easy during the first week. You will do some detoxing. Read up on this.
Anyway, I just thought I'd offer a little bit more on my background...maybe you can relate.
It is exciting to make positive changes for yourself!!! You can do this!!!

Hi Ladies,
Thank you for your encouragement
I have gone green for the past two and half days, big caffeine withdrawal day 1...terrible migraine.
Everything seems to feel better now. I have been looking up green juice recipes and using them.
I went on the scale this morning and I am down 5 pounds -- it's been so long since my weight has gone down, even when trying, so now I have incentive to continue. The key for me is not to obsess and get on the scale often.
Thanks,
J

Congrats! When you say you have "gone green" are you juicing? How are you eating? I am on day 2 of raw. no budge on scale yesterday but I was eating TJ uts which I discovered were not raw, and I have not been vegan. I am going to try to go vegan and 100% raw for 30 days.

Congrats on the weight loss!
My tsh was 12. No idea what it is now. I am a rebel like that. :)
I opted for no meds. My weight does not budge an ounce unless I am raw. Walk past the frozen food section at a store and 5 pounds leap on in an instant. grrrr.
I believe it is about getting the whole body back in balance. The best way to achieve this is to give your body the best and most nutrient dense non processed foods. Patience and ignore the scale. Watch your blood test results come back better and better and use that as your motivation.
Don't forget to play with your food!!!

RawGirl4Health -- I am obese so its all water at first, and for heavy people the first pounds come off quicker. Although this past year and a half no matter what I did nothing would change.
I have been making green smoothies in the morning, theres alot so i am drinking it throughout the day. The rest of the day is just fruits and veggies plus a handful of nuts. The almonds are roasted.
tiggerbounce - If I stick to this I will start to cut back on meds if the test are showing positive results. Next testing is at the end of March, we'll see : )

I think veganforlife got completely off her meds doing raw. Maybe she will chime in with her story. She did a lot of green smoothies, too, I think. I know that she has posted about it and her success.

See -- and I was just watching Dr. Oz today talk about B12. Thanks for the tip.
On lists for hypothyroidsm they have many veggies as off limits -- especially raw broccoli -- any thoughts. It's one of my favorite veggies, and I haven't touched it in these two days because of people blaming poor broccoli for their thyroid condition.
-
What about maca root? It is supposed to be an endocrine system adaptogenic.
Julie, did you ever try maca?
-
I heard good stuff also about MACA, that it helps our endocrine gland.
As for the raw broccoli, i eat them in sprout, i typically don't them raw or rarely. Unless i sort of marinate them and dehydrate them so they are like stir fried style. I didn't know they weren't good raw, i will look into that and check also dr.Oz site.
All the best!

Hey there,
I read that hypothyroidism is related to iodine deficiency (or that the most common cause of hypothyroidism is iodine deficiency). Perhaps you could supplement your diet with some seaweeds and strawberries. Has your doctor given you any explanations as to why you have hypothyroidism?
Seaweeds also aid digestion and assist blood sugar regulation, so you can't go wrong with them.
Good luck!
