Default Diaper rash when starting raw foods

Hi there! I have just started my son on a raw diet. He is 18 months old. He has developed a pretty bad rash that bothers him alot. Diaper creams are not helping, and airing it out doesn't either. I'm wondering if his body is adjusting to his new diet? I don't want him to suffer this way- but also don't want to deprive him of good nutrition! Thankyou!

I'm not sure about adjusting, but it could be. Try mixing baking soda with some water and make into a liquid paste and use it as a diaper rash cream. It's great to neutralize the acid on his bottom and will help it so it can heal.

You don't say HOW you started... a little taste, whole meals, everything all at once?? With any diet change in children, you should add foods gradually. If he's getting a lot of raw all at once, back off pretty substantially and let his poor system catch up. If not, perhaps one of the foods you added is the culprit. (Another good reason to add new foods slowly)

A lot of times, when people start on a raw diet their skin gets rough for a few days and then clears up and is smoother than before. It's kind of like their skin does a detox! Perhaps this is what is happening to his bottom, which would make this rash a good thing.

The other thing you could do is give him frequent baths, when my kids were in diapers I would give them a bath (actually more like a quick shower) everytime they filled their diaper and they never had diaper rash unless I stopped the baths.

Apply Raw coconut oil. It works like magic. The oil has to be RAW.

Don't use wipe but simply rinse the bum inside the lavabo. If your child is doing raw food, he/she is releasing more toxin which is great.

You are doing the right thing for your child. Push for fruits. Children are incline to eat fruits and it renew their nerve system and assist to restore balance.

Can't rule out the diaper itself from causing an allergic reaction. My bosses daughter had a terrible reaction to a diaper brand he tried. I do agree with the coconut oil recommendation though, beats zinc oxide.

I can't say what I'd do in a similar situation. I guess I'd probably have it checked out by a doctor or something. Sure, might seem panicky to some, but hey, at least I'm not subjecting anyone to any risks. Better safe than sorry can go a long way sometimes.
