Green Smoothies and the heat produced by blenders
Hi, I've been wondering does the RPM of a blender affect the nutrient and enzyme levels of a smoothie? By that I mean if a centrifugal juicer kills a lot of enzymes in a fresh juice, won't the speed which creates heat in a blender do the same to a smoothie?

but I think the most important thing is that even though the fruits and vegetables are being blended by high heat, they still have electrical energy to the body.
IMHO, it is not so much about the nutrient quantity, but its about what a fruit or vegetable does to the body- ex: does it clean out the body, is it an anti-inflamatory, does it strengthen the liver, does it have a lot of acids in it, does it help improve neurological symptoms, does it improve blood flow, does it improve the immune system, etc...
The last few months, I have doubted nutrition. That's why I have never trusted in supplements. I used to think that because people would get a lot of nutrition, they would be able to heal disease. That isn't mostly the case.
While there are some few cases where nutrition may heal disease, I feel that it's how a plant actually affects the human body is what actually heals the body.
Ginger and ginseng for example each have powerful effects on the body. They are very rarely looked at as a source of nutrition

Does your blender (inside the carafe), in the time you take to blend a smoothie, reach 118 degrees?

Hi Meat_Juice, thanks for taking the time to give your answer. I have a better understanding of the reason for smoothies now!
Revvell...the temp inside the carafe didn't even get warm. I only had a digital thermometer to test it and it only registered LO, not even a temp'. So I don't think that is really a problem. My other concern was the electromagnetic aspect, but for the 30 seconds it took to blend I don't think i will worry about that. Thanks for your response.

enzymes aren't really living things so you don't exactly kill them by heating them you destroy their structure. I have a centrifugal juicer and it's by no means efficient but it doesn't heat the juice.

I have put the heat theory to the test and found it is BS. With my vita mix blender and my Omega juicer.
If I take fruit and veggies out of fridge and make juice or smoothie they are cold like the fridge not hot like 110 degrees.
I think it is more likely companies are trying to sell one product over another and blowing the heat created way out of proportion.

yes if you keep your greens in the fridge the blender doesn't heat it up so much. Also whatever liquid you add if it is cold it will help keep everything nice and cool which is the way I like them. The blending does raise the temp though...but I try not to blend for too long as it is good to have a not so smooth consistency and better for your digestive system.

in my experience smoothies in blender with cold water get no where near hot
but with my champion juicer the juice was heated up a bit , not over 100 degrees or anything like that but warmer .
and i gave my champion to my mother few weeks after purchase so cant measure temp of it now .
but if i was still juicing ide include ice cubes in with whatever i was juicing to keep temps down

If you are really concerned about heat, add a few ice cubes to the blender as you blend! Easy!

Yep... easy peasy..... I do that every time.... but even so, I don't think my Vita Mix gets stuff that hot in the amount of time it takes to make a smoothie.... which I do a few times a day.

I don't use ice cubes but I freeze berries and banannas I just throw those in. Enjoy.
