    Default Doing mostly raw..

Hi everyone.. my name is Caty and I am 23 years old and live up in snowy Canada!

I pretty much lead the worst lifestyle ever. I eat like crap- I am a bartender at an Italian restaurant so most of my meals are cooked- though I do eat a lot of veg also. My diet is a lot of carbs and animal products. I am a certified Diet Coke addict. I don't really drink and I don't smoke/do drugs. I don't exercise really but I'd label my job as pretty active.. on my feet all the time, walking, jogging, lifting etc. I also have two Italian greyhounds so they keep me busy and go for around an hour walk a day.

I weigh around 155 and want to weigh 115. I weighed around 185 two years ago and went down to 130ish but it crept up again. I never made anything a lifestyle change.

Yesterday I switched my diet partially- three meals a day raw and one cooked. If I keep that up should I notice a difference in my health? I don't want to go fully raw as I love to enjoy a cooked meal with my boyfriend,. I will just try to make my meals around 2/3 vegetables and cut out the cooked starchy foods!

The raw meals I have eaten are just fruit and vegetables. I have an allergy to nuts and avocados.

    I haven't quit Diet Coke.

I have noticed pretty intense headaches the last few days though.

Thanks for any replies and I look forward to learning a lot!!

    Hi Caty!

I've heard that even changing your diet to 50% raw can give pretty good results so you're on the right track.

But diet coke is more toxic than the regular stuff and it still causes weight gain, even though it's less calories, because the artificial sweetener throws the blood's ph to acidic and so to protect itself from the acid the body kicks the acid out of the blood and into storage in fat cells.

    Good Luck!

I heard it causes weight gain also, but I did lose a significant amount of weight in around 3-4 months drinking around three litres a day of it, I know not healthy. I am planning right now on slowly weaning myself off it and switching to green tea, not sure if it's better but I can sweeten it with stevia or something. I want to get my routine down with eating mostly raw before I switch drinks.

Even though I have not switched 100% could the headaches be from detoxing? My diet right now is INFINITELY better than it was before. I am eating probably around 4lb of fruit and veg a day.

I think that your headaches are definitely from detoxing. I don't know how long they will last, I think they usually last less than a week - usually only a few days - everyone always gets some kind of short-term indigestion too. Maybe someone else who has detoxed diet coke could chime in with their experience and what they might have done to make their headache better. That's great that you're planning on switching drinks, my husband accidently bought some diet ice tea and I drank some and I thought it was awfull and I felt weird the next day. It's rat poison.

Three liters of diet coke a day really isn't healthy. But I understand that it is very difficult just to stop it cold turkey. I would recommend you work on the diet coke habit by slowly weaning yourself off. Start by replacing some of your diet cokes in the day with a big 16OZ glass of water. Increase the water/diet coke ratio a little bit every day until you can wean yourself off. If you stay hydrated by drinking a lot of water you will be less likely to drink the coke.

    Good luck!

I gave up diet coke in April. Cold. Haven't had any since. My rawness has slipped a few times but the coke is gone. I hope I can keep it that way forever.

I had really bad headaches for a few days then all was good. drank 3-6 litres a day. The cost alone was dreadful - and what it must have been doing to my body I don't want to think about it.
