    Default Hello everyone. I'm Roni

So, I start raw tomorrow. Nov 1, 2011. My goal is to be as raw as possible for next two months. I am brand new to raw for the most part. I have a vita-mix and did raw food smoothies all summer for breakfast. I am 47 and morbidly obeese. I come from a long line of addicts and just recently had the revalation that while drugs and alcohol are not my thing, I most definitely use food to cope, stuff and put off dealing with life. I'm pretty specific about what i binge on but once I give up control to a bag of reeses I am out of the gym in the fast food drive thru drinking diet coke all day and living dehydrated. I have a real problem with progress not perfection and am so very done with being unhealthy. I guess I got to this site when a friend showed me "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead". Knowing I could not live on just juice, I had planned to do smoothies. But, to be honest I don't like smoothies after they have been in the fridge for awhile. So, I kept looking around. I heard directly about this site and heard Alissa's name from Charlene the raw boot camp lady. I am so very thankful for this free site. I would be on my own with out it. I am all in! I have two of Alissa's books on the way. I will spring for the DVD's ASAP. I will be looking to join a "100+ pounds to loose" group if there is such a thing. I just went to the gym to weigh for the first time in 3 months. I'm up 9 pounds to 279 which is better than I expected. I am 5'7" and carry my weight from head to toe. People say I carry my weight well. That of course is a lie from Hades that I let myself rest in. There is no way to carry and extra 100+ pounds well. My knees hurt,my veins are wrecked, my left heel hurts and I have acid reflux alot lately. I am thankful for the fact that I have been lucky with these minor consequences but I can tell that my body is breaking down. If I don't do something NOW, I am in for major consequences all at once. So, I'm off to do some shopping for fruits and veggies. I look forward to meeting folks here and sharing the journey. Blessings from Columbus, NC.

Good luck. I started pretty much cold turkey, too. Same height, not quite as many lbs. to lose (but I had been close to that years ago). Detox may be nasty. I was tired for a couple weeks. CRANKY part of the time, lol. Panic stricken when I got too hungry... all kinds of emotional stuff. Fortunately I started while my hubby was out of town for a couple weeks. Worked for me, lol.

Have LOTS of food to grab... I had raw nuts around always, dried fruit helped when a sweet craving set in. Banana, ice and water is a great pick me up smoothie -tastes a lot better than it sounds. Water with lemon is good to sip.

I did a lot of gourmet type things to start with, but ended up wasting a lot so start gradual, would be my recommendation.

I have a thing for crunchy, so bought several kinds of raw cracker-y type things. Lots are available so that's a good thing. I made many nut based dips and that satisfied the cravings there. I also found some good recipes by trial and error. That too passed. You'll probably find your tastes change so be ready for that too.

DON'T worry about how much you eat when you start. Just have lots of green leafy salads, avocado is very filling and great for you. Your body will finally realize you are giving it good food and it's just not as hungry as it used to be.

IF you go off on something you "shouldn't"... just forget it. It doesn't matter. Go back to the good stuff and you'll be fine. Few are perfect.

    Hi Roni!

Totally connect with you on the addict aspect - it makes it especially challenging when people you love and are surrounded by are just as addicted as yourself. Good luck!

Hi Roni, Welcome, you'll find lots of support here

regarding your smoothies; I'd definitely make and eat them fresh as opposed to letting them sit in the fridge. They'll taste better & won't get funky like smoothies sometimes can when they sit a while.

    Warm regards,

    Melissa

You will do great. Once you feel that raw energy you wont want to eat any other way. Take it one day at a time. For Acid reflux try Braggs applecider vinager with honey or stevia with water. The ACV (apple cider vinager) also cuts my appetite down.

I m starting againg so we can do this together.
